    2jzgte 89 Soarer

    I have seen this done before with a six speed supra box i was wondering if anyone has any info on this conversion or what

    You have seen this done?

    Couple of things that might need looking at to see how easy it is. I'm not too sure on MX Soarers so bear with me.

    The crossmember, now I know to fir a JZ engine in a MA Supra you need to have the updated crossmember that comes on the 89+ supras, you can tell them by the round engine mounts. If your soarer has this crossmember (as I beleive the soarer/supra share parts) then halve your troubles are gone as the JZ engines can bolt up to these crossmembers.

    Now lets say you have the updated crossmember, you will need 1JZ engine mounts off a JZA70 supra to mate the 2JZ to the crossmember. The gearbox is abit of a different mission. The V160 is a big bitch although not as big as I had thought. It's very tall but tinner than a R154. You MIGHT have to mod the tunnel alittle to make it fit. That is if you can find a 2JZGTE with V160 that doesn't cost a kidney (no I'm not joking I'm sure the value is about the same).

    Other than that I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

    Hell I've even seen crazy Japs put Soarer fronts on Supras and Supra fronts on Soarers.. weird look.

    ok what im doing is this
    I have got a a 89 soarer gt limited - engine
    i plan to get a 2jzgte and throw it in along with hopefully the supra six speed but im not getting my hopes up for it. Ah i have 15000 + an want it done as cheaply as possible so i have some cash left for mods. do u know how much the 2jzgte is worth and 6 speed and what is involved?

    the 2jz is easily found, relatively - you can buy them in automatic form from "aristo" (jap luxobarge) halfcuts.. ballpark figure ~4k

    the gearbox, especially the 6 speed, will likely be that much again, if you can find one. The popular option is to use a 5-speed from an earlier model supra, purely for cost reasons. I think they're around half that price, so about $2k...

    There are three manual transmissions that will bolt up to a JZ block.

    - V160 6-speed from the JZA80 Supra. Obviously the most desirable, and probably the strongest production gearbox available in a road car today. Sadly they're not cheap - you're looking at $8-10k for a JZA80 front cut. I've never seen a 6-speed for sale on its own, but I expect it would cost lots if you found one.

    - R154 5-speed from the JZA70 Supra. This is the same as the one fitted to the locally-delivered MA70 Supra turbo, but obviously with a different bellhousing to suit the 1JZ-GTE. Getting an R154 isn't that hard, but getting one with a 1JZ bellhousing will be a challenge. Ring around a few import yards and see what you come up with - they'll probably offer you a complete front cut (about $2500 from some places).

    - W58 5-speed. These were found in the non-turbo Supras, Soarers and other cars with the 1JZ-GE and 2JZ-GE engines. The box itself is similar to the one found in earlier non-turbo Supras, but again the bellhousing is different and hard to come by. I'm looking for one of these myself, as it's the only one that will fit in an MA61 Supra without mods to the trans tunnel.

    Note that the W58 is not as strong as the other two, which is why Toyota chose not to put them behind the turbo engines. I'm taking the gamble because my MA61 is much lighter than the later model cars the engine came out of, so I reckon the gearbox will live. Your Soarer is a bit of a barge though, so it would be pretty risky in your case.
