depednds how much you wanna spend?

IMO i would stay clear of xplod 6x9's as ive installed them in a friends car and they started to distort before the front stockas did.... but if they sound good to you then go for it

goto JB hifi and go in a demo some of the speakers they have on their boards, should give u an idication of what sounds good to YOUR ears

    hope this helps
    tom.

I've got some VDO Dayton 6x9's (QM6920) and I would happily recommend them again

I paid about $125 for them.

Will not initially run them with an amp no.. eventually they will have one.

How much to spend.. well, as much as it costs to get something decent. Just don't need anything outrageous... for example I think a sub is a waste of money in a car.

I would buy alpine over xplod, even though alpine inflate their prices a bit because of the name. but listen to them, and decide which one you like most.

otherwise plenty of somewhat less obvious brands, JBLs etc.. if they make something in the price range.

A friend reckons 6x9's aren't as reliable as a 6.5" woofer, so that's something to think about as well. My response 6x9's are both dying (crackling and popping, probably a dud voice coil) after 3 years, both started going within 1-2 months of each other and i have only ever powered them off the head unit (and not to the point where they clip noticeably). But then 3 years is a decent life, they were pretty cheap compared to other stuff and I only wanted bass fill for the rear.

I've always liked pioneer 6x9's, they seem very efficient, compared to other 6x9's i've heard, which is something to consider if you're running them off your deck. Doesn't take all that much to get them going.

Very nice speakers, i've got a pair of 2 ways which have been sitting on my parcel tray for nearly 4 years now and they're still killing it (although the other car has a sub so my standards have changed somewhat).

    But thats just my experience
