    DIY rev limiter

Does anyone know of a kit or a circuit diagram for a DIY rev limiter? Nothing flash, just a straight ignition cut out for a 4 cyl carbed car with a dizzy.

Traditionally, rev limiters cut out the fuel.

If you cut out the spark on a carburettored car, the fuel is still being pumped into the motor and as soon as the spark returns, you'll end up with a HUGE bang out of your exhaust as the stochiometric unburned air and fuel ignites, just like a keybanger.

It is illegal do do this and it will likely blow apart your mufflers by setting a rev limiter in this fashion.

Bozz-- I think you'll find it's for a rally car knowing tortfeaser, so it's likely to be pretty "unmuffled" anyway heeh

Go for it tort boy -- and let me know how it goes it reality

Rev limiting rotor button, fitted into your distributor.

get something just below your redline.

Thanks for that guys - the key banger factor in this case will be a good thing. Rowdy is right - it is for a rally car that I'll be codriving.

It's the driver's first event, and he's a bit of a rev monster. A big bang out the arse might remind him to not rev the sh*t out of the thing next time.

911SC - I've not heard of these. Where are they available?

    It's a bit expensive
    the rev limieter is here

    $34.95

but you also need the engine imobiliser kit (it uses this to cut spark)
    found here

    $29.95

Bozz, saying that traditionally rev limiters cut out the fuel would be like saying traditionally cars came out with fuel injection? rev limiters have been around a lot longer than efi.. Better rev limiters (that cut ignition rather than fuel) cut some of the ignition sparks to keep the engine at the limit rather than just cut spark altogether.

Big bang out the arse? I thought you said "big bang up the arse". Danger!

Hmmm, rev control kit. I could get a splinky shift light, but we've already got too much to do.

JW is gonna love me at scrutineering...

Ahh it all becomes clear.. its for the Appliance..

Fro-- if you want to make JW happier, tell him if he's a nice scrutineer, he can scrutineer the ex-smee gemini again next year... It's still as clean and tidy as it was when it left Mr Mee's hands..

my only advice Fro is when it starts to valve bounce, pulling another gear is a good move..

umm, you can get them from most places that sell bosch distributors.

someone said earlier, they cut the spark at a certain revs which is right, but it basically runs a few cylinders, and cuts a few off, only sparking on some.

they're tops. have them on all our cars....

it's much better than fuel cutoff where theres so much stuffing around, this way you just take off the rotor button, add a rev limiting one and you're off.

they come in a variety too, find out what your redline is and rev limit just under that
