    engine/exhaust note...

what creates the sound pitch of an exhaust (or does it come from engine)?

im wanting to achieve either a r33 exhaust note or even better the vw r32 golf (go here and click on the part which says...click here... duh hehe) on a SR20DET engine. i guess you could say the engine note sounds "husky, throaty, rumbling and deep"

btw if u go to the gallery section onthe vw site, click to see the movie and hear the sound

is the sound mainly from the engine? im guessing it is which is a shame but what can i do to get something close to it? extractors, resonators, mufflers, exhaust pipe size? willing to lose a bit of power to compenate.. only a bit hehe

the main reason is well, cause it sounds so damn SEXY, but also is that it reduces the headache caused from a droning exhaust :/

Mufflers make a huge difference, i know that glass pack mufflers give that deep rumble you hear on some V8s because of the glass absorbing certain frequencies and so on. That said engines make a huge difference too, you can pick the sr20 sound from a mile away.

The sr20det sound is from the factory exaust manifold, change it to a tubular style one and it sounds like a sort of well tuned NA motor
I design and sell the following:

    www.iqengineering.com.au
    -RB30 into GTR sump adapters
-Engine mounts - urethane and perfect for all conversions
-SR20 to RB25 bell housing conversions
-Can do any 3D design and modelling at competitive rates.

    Coming Soon:
Holden 5L 4 bolt main caps and full one piece girdle.
Hydraulic tilt tray trailers, lowest approach angle in the industry, suspension, control it from your Android or Iphone....ETA 2 months

DZ: Hey screw you hippy. The GTI-R, with it's new exhaust doesn't sound as tractor-ish as an S13.

Besides, I'd have to be a rice boy if I went and changed my whole exhaust manifold JUST for the sound. The only way it'll ever get changed is if I get a bigger turbo and that aint happening until I have a strengthened gearbox...and that will prob never happen, so there you go

Maybe with the new exhaust we wont accidentally mistake a diesel hilux for your car again.

If you wanna go the full hog...

Tubular (thinwall?) manifold, flow cat, open exhaust (perhaps with a cone glass pack or some biz).

I would imagine though that the fact it's an SR20 is your limiting factor.
