    Toyota recalling 651,366 vehicles...

    Your thinking WTF!!!

I'd think sunrays over time would no doubt fade anything, it's just how things are. Toyota shouldn't bother unless it is really that noticable and I don't think I have seen many Toyotas as far back as '89 with faded lamps...oh their probably all in NZ or Aust . Looks like it won't cost them much then .

Also kids these days love the clear euro lens look, maybe Toyota has mistaken an aftermarket clear light and lens as a defect of theirs .

Toyota recalling 651,366 vehicles with defective rear lamps

    Friday, November 5, 2004 at 07:51 JST
TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp said Thursday it is recalling 651,366 units of 10 car models for free replacement of defective rear lamps whose red color could fade after long exposure to sunrays.

The vehicles were manufactured between November 1989 and April 2000 and the models include the Toyota Hiace Wagon, Toyota Hiace Van and Toyota Kyukyusha (ambulance), the biggest Japanese automaker said in a report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

I'll try and find out which 10 models they are unless you guys have noticed which Toyotas have obvious faded tail lights.

you mean they arent supposed to do that? So when are they recalling all the late 80's early 90's cars with the paint that fell off or bleached white in the sun?

Mizone...spot on! There are people who import Hiaces?

    --
So not to worry unless you own a HiAce Van or Wagon...details are on the Japanese homepage. This further supports what I have said, most of the Hiaces/Passenger vans owners over here have changed to clear taillights and with a clear bulb they just fucking blind you if your waiting behind one at the traffic light in the evening

While on their recall page I also noticed...
-September 15th, recalls on MR-S master brake cylinder leak due to seals. Build between 1999 October 5th - 2000 June 30th.
-April 8th, recalls on Kluger child safety switch failure on the rear doors. Build between 2000 November 17th - 2004 January 28th.
-Two seperate recalls on the late model Toyota Crowns...which doesn't affect anyone in Aust.

    sikma what do you mean?

I quite like the E8 MR lights where the inside surrounding is darken out, so with a clear lens it's not too bad. But the E8 like the Altezza with the chrome surrounding is just ghey!..can't help it I guess the E8 was introduced to the States! IMO the E7 rear light is the best looking of them all with a red lens over the circular lights.

Would you believe Brisbane Street Machines and almost every other super dodgy importer in Bris now has a quite impressive lineup of 4WD Starwagons and other similar "street machines..."

Actually I don't think the factory VN taillights fade too much, it's just the cheap Korean ones that people use when the original one is damaged that fade.

Over here in WA there's all sorts of weird one off imports.

The neighbour can't figure why this thing uses so much petrol. I took it down the freeway and it was sitting at 3K RPM at 100km/h !

And thought the Hiluxes where bad.

Hey maybe all they need is one of those inonising stickers.....

The E8 ones are bigtime, the darker MR ones do look better.

Agreed that E7 is the best

Toyota recalls 340,000 vehicles for steering-wheel defects

    Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 17:42 JST
TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp said Tuesday it is recalling some 340,000 units of five sport-utility and commercial vehicle models for free replacement of defective parts.

The total includes 330,496 units of the Toyota Hilux Surf, Hilux Surf 4WD and Hilux Surf Wagon whose steering wheels could become uncontrollable because of weak relay rods, Toyota said in a report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The vehicles were manufactured between December 1988 and May 1996.

    Mazda to recall 40,600 vehicles

    Friday, November 12, 2004 at 06:32 JST
TOKYO — Mazda Motor Corp notified the government Thursday it plans to recall a total of around 40,600 commercial vehicles in five models in Japan for free repairs due to possible front-hub and drive-train defects, the government said.

The models, produced between May 1999 and October 2004, include the Bongo, Vanette and Delica trucks and vans. Mazda has produced the Vanette series for sale by Nissan Motor Co and the Delica series for marketing by Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (Kyodo News)
Nissan settles tax dispute with Revenue

    By James Mackintosh in London
    Published: November 10 2004 22:41 | Last updated: November 10 2004 22:41

Nissan has paid the Inland Revenue more than £37m after the Japanese carmaker was accused of shifting profits from its UK factory to countries with lower tax rates.

The settlement is almost as much as the £45m government grant given to Nissan this year and last to secure the future of its factory in Sunderland.

The Revenue, which had threatened court action, is still investigating rival carmaker Honda on suspicion that its profits in the UK are too low because it undercharges its foreign subsidiaries for British-made cars.

The Revenue probe into the two companies was first revealed in the Financial Times in July.

“We never agreed with what they [the Revenue] were saying but we didn't want this to be dragging on forever and ending up in the High Court, which would be very expensive and time-consuming,” Nissan said. “We made a small concession in order to bring this to a close.”

Honda was hit by a similar investigation this summer by the Japanese tax authorities, who accused it of shifting Y25.4bn (£129m) of profits from motorcycles to its Brazilian subsidiary. Japanese tax officials have demanded an extra Y13bn of tax, which Honda said was “totally unacceptable”. The moves reflect fears among national tax authorities that they are losing income to lower-tax regions because of globalisation and the growing power of multinational companies.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development estimates that more than 60 per cent of world trade takes place within multinationals, and several groups of tax authorities are studying how to ensure they pay the right tax in the right place.

Under its deal with the Revenue, Nissan's UK sales subsidiary surrendered £20m of tax losses, which would usually be set off against future profits, while the factory handed over £12.5m of tax losses and £4.5m in other payments.

Nissan is the UK's largest car exporter but by the start of last year had accumulated almost £100m in tax losses. British-based Honda Motor Europe had losses of £216m last March, the start of its last tax year. Honda's Swindon factory has never made a profit and lost £43.6m last year.

David King, company secretary at Honda, said the Revenue's investigation was a few months behind the process at Nissan, but the company was, nevertheless, confident of its position. The Revenue refused to comment on Wednesday.
