Unhappy Isuzu MU turbo upgrade... any help please!

ive just picked up an isuzu MU and the turbo appears to be on its way out. im thinking about upgrading the turbo.. but have just been told i cant use a t3/t4 but rather a VFxx or something along those lines...

the turbo on the MU is an IHI RBH5... the same as what Subaru uses

also by using a bigger turbo i need a new manifold... is there anything else?

im new to all this turbo business so not really sure what my options would be... anyones help would be much appreciated!!!

without knowing anything specific about those turbos (or suburu-used ones), you have a few of options:
    - get stock one rebuilt
    - as above but get high-flowed
    - replace with another turbo with the same flange, and you may find one that isn't too big such that it hits anything and u can keep your manifold
    - replace manifold+turbo

#1 or #2 will be relatively trouble free compared to the other options

You can use the RHF5 ballbearing turbo off the 3.1 diesel. Good luck getting a wrecker to sell you one that isn't connected to a 3.1 diesel though. I've tried.

Burn it. Profit!11! from the experience there is one less 'mysterious utility' out there.

bringing this thread back from the depths.

but if some one was going to go a steam pipe manifold what would you recomend
it will also have a 3 inch exhaust and a front mount intercooler and fuel pump mods.
expecting it to run some where between 17 and 22psi from 2000rpm

    is it possible?

Way too big, more suited to a 4l diesel. Stick a TDO4 off a WRX on it, will work good and won't blow.

would a td04 work on a 2.5L diesel? what is the rule of thumb for diesel turbo sizing?

    cheers for that.
this vf12 came off a liberty.
old mate has already dropped it off at my place and it does seem a bit bigger externaly.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/T3-T4-Tur...item3cc0788a3d

is that what i should be looking at? it seem's even bigger?

    just realised thats a t04 not a td04.
any idea what a tdo3 is worth second hand in good condition eaby seem's to have a fairly large price difference?

all this turbo stuff confuses the shit out of me!!

just had another look the td04 seems to be off a mitsubishi pajero 2,8td aswell so is it acutally much of an upgrade?
my pops 2.8td pajero is slow as all fuck.

What is this "high flowed" and what sort of $$ are we looking at. I have a rodeo 2.8TD and am looking at some mods to improve driveability.

How much better is this than the original and do I need the exhaust manifold as well or will it bolt up to the existing?
