I finally have an update on my project! Thanks to rbman my car now has a transmission tunnel large enough to accomodate a Getrag V160. Sure it doesn't look too pretty, but it's strong so that's the main thing.

    More photos here.

The gearbox will be coming out in the next week or two, depending when Mr Toyota decides to send me the parts I ordered, at which point I'll paint the tunnel inside and out with etch primer, then cover it in that nasty black tar stuff, then fill the remaining small gaps with some kind of goo, then paint over the top. Once the carpet goes back you won't see most of the new sections of tunnel, and the centre console will cover what's left. As you can see from the photos the console doesn't quite fit properly and will need to be hacked a bit to accomodate the new shifter position, but that's not a big deal for me. Me have six speed, me happy.

Now I just have to pull a wad of cash out of my ass so I can afford a new tailshaft and custom fuel lines.

This car seriously rocks. What more can I say that hasn't been said?
Norbie's series of ma61s has given me quite the taste for shitty old supras. The black skid car could make anyone feel like a good driver. I really wish you never sold that thing man.

Over the last 6 or so years I have wasted many hours pointlessly driving around in that thing Norbie. Look forward to doing it again as soon as I escape/get released from this place.

Don't you hate it when you lend a grinder too a friend and he takes the guard off and looses it? , I would put it on if I could...

    Edit -

Next time you are in the car have a feel of the inside of the windscreen. The molten iron oxide melts a little pit in it. Ask me how I know

As long as the side windows are okay. As mentioned earlier Norbie gets his forward vis looking out the side...
...i guess he could just roll them down anyway.

Norbs, how hard was the actual motor swap? Not with the 6-speed, just the 5...

Beavis, http://www.norbie.net/Project2JZ/default.htm for all the details. But cliff notes:

    front sump engine
modified crossmember mounting points and mounts
    same gearbox crossmember
    wiring
    water pump/cooling fan mod
    intercooler and piping.

So when do you get the tailshaft dude?

Yeah the engine swap was easy, which is why it took me 18 months to finish it.

Tailshaft happens when I have money. I've been spending way too much lately and the wallet is hurting!

Hmmm, hope those welds to the transmission tunnel 'inserts' were completed, even a Toyota needs its structural strength.

Honestly, it could do with a bit more, but i wouldn't stay up worrying about it. Stitch welding is plenty strong.

(I actually agree Richard, but these guys aren't idiots. They can take their chances )

Well, I have another stab at it, but I still reakon that the shapely channels that are everywhere offer more structural rigitidy than filler wire... hmmmm filler wire must remember to pinch some more tomorrow...

norbie , has shortening the shifter rod and cradle up so much affected the geometry adversely ?
im about to take 50mm out of mine , and it looks like youve taken much more than that ...
