Okay, the page for the car is here, and as I type this it's undergoing a major rebuild at Rz's shop.
The page on the rebuild isn't updated right now but it will be in a month or two. It's here.

Anyway, it's a Sports 1300 or Clubman racer. It's under 400kg and the cars are pretty quick around most tracks even though we don't have a lot of power. A few run Suzuki Swift GTi twin-cam engines of around 140hp or so, some others still run the old Datsun A12 & Toyota 3K's.
    Here's mine.

    Some vids -
    Willowbank 1
    Willowbank 2
    Oran Park

In its old configuration it did a 57.0 around Lakeside, (I think), a 56.3 around the Clubman track at Willowbank, a 1:39.1 at Eastern Creek, and I think 1:07 around the old Wakefield Park track.
After the rebuild I reckon it's going to be a fair bit faster, so hopefully I'll be able to knock a second or so off all those times. I'll try to get some more vids as well.

It's a few months away, we have to repair the gearbox and do some more work on the engine. We'll try to get it ready for the Nationals in November.

I think the Mallock could do with a bit more triangulation.....

One of the things I've wanted to improve is the anti-Ackerman effect that the steering has. We couldn't eliminate it, but we reduced it a lot by moving the rack forwards as far as possible. In the combined photo on the left you can see how we cut the old upper supports for the rack to see how it looks further forwards. The angle of the steering links is somewhat reduced, and in the final position of the rack it was a little further forwards yet again. The rack mounts are also far stiffer than before, as you'll see below.

The rack mounting sure looks a lot more substantial than it did before you changed it. The rack still looks like it's placed a long way back, but I understood that moving the steering rack away from the axle centreline reduced the Ackerman steering geometry.

    Some more progress at last.

Got the chassis sandblasted and zinc-somethingorother painted.
Pete & I (mainly Pete) worked on the new water plumbing today and this is how the pipes now run.
It's getting a water-to-oil heat exchanger and it seems to fit in okay.

The old radiator, a big heavy copper thing, used to have the inlet & outlet at opposite ends. The new one has them both on the left side. The old water pipes were all squashed up under the inlet manifold and very hard to work on.The new lot will be a heck of a lot easier I think.

It's an off-the-shelf Setrab water/oil heat exchanger, I bought it from Meridan Motorsport in Melbourne. They come in a few different sizes and that's the smallest.

    They look like this ->

1 1/4" in & out water pipes (I think) and aroundabout dash-10 oil fittings though I'm not sure of the thread, if could be metric.

    thankyou

I just purchased a sexy sexy PWR rad for my e30 (I'm literally going to go out to the garage now to pull the old one out and start fitting it!) and as my sandwich plate has no thermostat, and I now have ample cooling power from the rad, one of these may well be the go.

I haven't used one before but in theory I reckon they're great, as they will help the oil warm-up faster and should also keep the oil temperature more stable as well.

yeah, I know a guy with one on his formula 2 car and he reckons it is great, the oil temp comes up nicely as it warms up. (dirty big billet cylinder about 18" long, dunno if it is just me but nicely machined aluminium stuff makes me happy in my pants) They were run on the benson and hedges e30 m3 touring cars too, (got some pictures on the mess that is my hard drive somewhere!) so if the boffins in munich think they are a not bad thing to have then I'm at least half convinced. The issue for me previously was a lack of cooling, the standard radiator was marginal and fitting a (well cleaned!) 2nd hand bmw item did help a fair bit, but really dont know how all this cooled oil is affecting the oil temp on warm up and all that, so i think it will be worth an experiment.

    ta,
    Michael.
