Well I finally got round to buying a new car, something I've been looking for, for a while, but always seem to get sidetracked with something else previously. So when this BMW E21 323i came up for the right price I grabbed it, unfortunately it's not an Alpina despite the stripes, one of the previous owners just decided to put some Alpina stripes on it. On the passenger side there is only the top half of the stripe for some reason, not sure whether to take them off altogether or get the missing bit replaced. Not a huge fan of stripes, although they do make it look a bit more interesting.
Of course as I drove it home the clutch started sinking to the floor, predictably right when I was coming up to a busy central London on Saturday afternoon, the perfect time to lose the use of most of the clutch travel, meaning I couldn't really stop. Ok so it wasn't quite as bad as the time I completely snapped a clutch cable on my cortina and had to drive home with no use of the clutch at all in peak hour traffic, but still not that pleasant.
Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, it's mostly pretty straight and original, and I have it on classic insurance as such, which is quite cheap, so I'm tempted to leave it standard for the time being. It's ok for what is basically a stock 1981 car, but I think the suspension and handling in general could do with a bit of sharpening up before bothering about any power increases. Could do with an LSD as well, the single spinner is a bit unpredictable when trying to putting the power down around corners.
