    The mav

Bit bored so I thought I would chuck up some pics of the toy.

    Bought it like this:

Bent the front bar and rear bars on various trees. So took them off.

    Here it is making 63rwkw.

    Got some bigger tyres:

    Got some new bigger tyres:

Got a new front bar and some spotlights.

I dont have anything big planned for it, just lockers, a winch and fixing whatever gets broken. It's slow but it's a heap of fun.

Yep 35 inch simexs. I think its got a 2 inch suspension lift. It has a 3 inch body lift. It was lifted like that when I bought it. The tyres dont rub now that Ive spaced the front diff forward a touch.

Its a petrol one on LPG. Economy is pretty good, losing spark when going through bogholes isnt

I doubt the cops would have used the luxury XLT for SOG work. They prefered base spec, less shit to break.

Since Jan Ive got a winch, sliders, rear bar, air compressor and replaced the busted factory locker diff that I had with another factory locker diff which doesnt work after a few weekends out. :S

Then I smashed it this morning. Lost it on a slippery clay hill going up and hit a tree at about 15 km/hr. Lots more damage than I was expecting.

    Went to the snow.

On the way home the alternator seized up 3 hrs from home. Tried various things to at least turn the water pump but failed.

The other car we went with had to leave early so we had to wait for a mate's Dad to come with a trailer.

The culprit was a $12 bearing which is now fixed. Fitted a new starter motor while I was at it and modded the bar to clear the winch better since the crash.

Im having a bracket made to fit falcon alternators which are 40 ish amps more and heaps cheaper and easier to find 2nd hand. Ill carry a spare from now on.

Alternator conversion done. It handles high loads way better than the stocker. Headlights, spotlights, compressor, heater can all be running and voltage stays at 14 volts. Before it would struggle to reach 12V!

    Front air locker fitted yesterday.

Got a new winch hook and a deflator and ordered some synthetic winch rope to replace my dodgy kinked and broken steel cable.

Snow pics are impressive, nice one. What was it like driving on snow? Way different to sand?

Ive never driven on sand so I cant tell you.

Its hard to steer out of pre made ruts and its easy to get stuck. At least with snow its easy to dig yourself out if there are no trees to winch from.

Snow drifting is good fun too.

    Front lockers are awesome.

If only the factory rear one would stay locked consistantly.

Here are some pics. I bought a new laptop for oziexplorer too. It fits nicely on the dash and has in built bluetooth for gps. I just need to make a bracket for it.

Got myself an EFI manifold and dizzy and a microleb to suit.

I bought the EFI manifold and dizzy from geelong a few weeks back, it had looms to plug into a microtech. A few weeks later I was browsing ebay and found a microtech to suit a GQ in Queensland, I sent a few emails and it turns out the microtech was off the same car that the manifold and dizzy came from.

    Winnah.

Im going to move the LPG to inside the car behind the front seats and fit a standard petrol tank. We are going to tassie at the end of the year and Ill need the extra range.

I got to test my new winch rope on my house yesterday. It worked good.

EFI project has been abandoned in favour of a straight gas research setup with a 2nd lpg tank. I bought a car with all the gear I need and I can wreck the car out and get all my money back so the gas research stuff is practically free.

I just need an adapter to fit the throttle body to the carby manifold then its off to the gas joint to have the 2nd tank fitted and everything plumbed up.

Still have to fix my body mounts once exams are over next week.

Got some new HID converted lightforce 240's last night, they work a treat.

Yeah its about 10 inches lower with flat tyres. Makes it easier to work in the engine bay.

Doesn't that damage the tyres though?

Nah, they are 6 ply bias tyres with heavy duty tubes in them.

They take a lot of punishment.
