    Project V8 Soarer track shttr

This will be my project/track hack/skid car as my other Soarer i decided is too nice to fuck with

So - take one bunky-spec Soarer, purchased for the grand sum of $5k

Body needs a bit of TLC (scratches, dents) and interior is a bit rough but that'll be getting stripped out anyway as part of the 200+ kg Jenny Craig weight loss program™

Will try to get the aircon and CD stacker running before i pull them out for sale

Rest of the car is good, air suspension all works, engine had timing belt/tappets done not long ago and purrs like a 1UZ should, auto box feels ok, brakes good for a stock V8, bushes need some attention though. Its licensed and the Supra 16's have plenty of rubber on too

I have a set of TT Soarer brakes and an SAFC ready to go on for starters

Once i get a starting weight i will pull as much stuff out as i can, see how light i can get it.

Its not a daily-driver (my "good" Soarer is for that) so no mercy will be shown, and down the track it will be used as the guinea pig for my twin-turbo install

    5k is a bargain.

You will be able to strip major weight out of the thing.

Look forward to seeing this tt setup

Tell me about it, i was kicking myself for passing up another one in better condition but with some (easily-fixed) rear-end damage for 2k....

With the air susp. removed eventually i should be able to get this even lighter than a stripped out TT due to the difference in engine weights, although the turbo setup will add a fair bit on

Which reminds me, are there any weighbridges open on weekends around?

That midland one isnt, the only other place i know of to weigh a car is the Plex

5K? Fuck me thats a bargain. I just cant understand why these things go so cheap, I mean they are a damn nice car and the 1UZ is widely regarded as one of most bulletproof performance motors available.

Top project mate, shall be watching with keen interest.

I think its because they are not 'hero' cars like Supra's or Skylines and they dont stand out, plus despite being made in japan til 2000 most of the ones here are over 15 years old

Whatever the reason if youve got 7-8k you can pick up a pretty decent TT or V8 if you know what to look for, and its a lot of car for the money

plan is to low-mount small (GT25) turbos using modified existing manifolds

space will be tight but id rather do it that way as eventually the setup will make its way into my good soarer which will have all the aircon/battery/air lines/hydraulic fan in the way of any front-mount setup

Look in your UBD for a list of weigh bridges.

Are the turbos going to end up been high of lower than the sump level??
Low mount should give a realativly stock look,is she going to be "legal"?

will be higher than sump for oil flow reasons, although i havnt yet worked out the exact position - this is still some way off yet!

the stock look is what im aiming for, aside from the telltale FMIC

Sounds awesome. About time someone did some work to a v8 soarer. I just sold my soarer after owning for nearly 4 years, had lots of fun with it.

yeh i remember reading your thread, thought about grabbing those Sparco rails off ya

Anyway, starting weight with spare wheel, toolkit, etc and 20L fuel - 1630kg

suspension lowered a bit, full set of Superpro bushes ordered including diff/subframe, although might not fit them until i grab an LSD

Aircon is now working so i can pull that out and sell it, fixed a few other dash/switchgear things, oil/filter change, etc

The black Soarer copped the 4-pot Celsior brake upgrade today, the 20mm spacers i had bought on a guess as to the clearance necessary for the big monoblock calipers turned out to be spot on, brakes just clear the wheels....

So the TT soarer 2-pots from that went onto the green machine...

Bedding the new pads/rotors in on both cars so havent given them a real stomp yet, but the green machine should pull up nicely, it actually has a more solid pedal than the black car with its gas-assisted traction-control/ABS system. Kinda glad this one doesnt have it.

Anyway, while the TT Soarer/Supra brakes arent huge, they are about as big as will fit in the Supra wheels so they will have to do for now.

Tomorrow i'll start pulling out some of the interior

Those mesh wheels don't look too bad. What size are they?

Oh, and needs side skirts and a front lip, a la a '97+ or AC kit.

Theyre 18 inch Stern Arius - 8" wide on the front, 9 on the back

    Nice, light wheels

I think 90% of body kits look shit so im happy with it how it is, but the '97 factory kit does look ok

Pulled some stuff out of the interior of the green machine today...

Apart from the CD stacker, amp and cd-rom drives for the nav stuff all that is just from the parcel shelf and under the rear seat...

Minor update - rear seats, carpet, door and dash trims out, still a ton of wiring and stuff under the dash to come out, havnt touched any of the aircon stuff yet either.

Front seats weigh a fucking ton, will be good to get them out

    1470kg now

Will give it a run down the 1/4 this week for a laugh

SAFC fitted, aircon pump, condenser and engine bay piping out, exhaust and one manifold off (cunt of a job but will be swapping with the el-cheapo twin 2.5" system i have on the other car)

Found out what 15yo cats look like

Should go a bit better once i bash out the restERR i mean get new cats

rear 23mm ARB will also be swapped with the 25mm TT one too, unfortunatly LSD wont be fitted in time for the motorkhana, so i will no doubt have 'traction' issues

edit: Never did make it down the 1/4, the one time i made it to the Motorplex it rained, didnt get there again before it closed for the season

i am quite interested in this, the 1UZ engine had around 190kw right? Sorry, i dont know much about Toyota engines, but i understand these are a strong engine. I reckon with a manual, open zorst/tune, good brakes, suspension, LSD and a shit load of lightening this could be a fun car.

Yeh the engines are tough, not much goes wrong with them. You'll spend a bit more for performance than with a 1JZ Soarer but theyre ideal for going turbo or blower, and once you get a decent setup.... well you'd know what a 4 litre turbo is capable of

    Manual would be nice though...

Nice work, good to see someone hacking up a V8 soarer instead of TT for once!

www.etuner.com.au is developing 1UZ turbo kits, may be an option for those looking for bolt-on turbo kits for their Celsoir, Soarer etc.
