    Ignition/crank triggers?

I'm setting up the ignition soon, and I'm wondering if I should change it or not.

Currently the plan is to put a cap over the electronic dizzy and use the triggers in it for the ECU.

However - the distributor is driven by a scissor gear off the intake camshaft, which is driven off the crank via the timing chain.

Should I change to a trigger disc off the crank to eliminate any timing jump due to the slight slop present between the crank and dizzy shaft?

The other possibility is to mount the trigger disc at the back of the motor in the bellhousing - which would be particularly easy with a 1FZ.

Opinions - or should I leave it as is?

Your going to need a reference and a sync signal, so you can't just reference everythign off the crank. You will need the dizzy drive to make it work. Unless you can rig some sort of reference directly off the cam.

    Good point -

So that means I still use the dizzy for the cam trigger, but maybe a chopper wheel for the crank angle.

    hmm.

The cam has a trigger post on it - I'd need to rig up the sensor into the early model head though.
