whiteline swaybar installed - my god i should have done this a long time ago! turns in hard and doesn't understeer any more, just sticks and stays flat through the turns. if you push it hard now you get perfect 4 wheel slip, you can make it oversteer if you try hard enough :-) very happy!

oh yes. followed a guy on an R1 through the hills towards healesville yesterday and the car was epic, i had better corner speed than the bike actually, which i was pretty happy with! so much more fun to drive now with the swaybar in.

nah CES wanted 750 for a dump pipe farken

ended up finding a guy in adelaide that does them - AM performance he's just a part-time fabricator i think. it's pretty good quality, yet to check the fit though. should be heaps better than the 2 1/4 common dump i have on there now. will have a look on the weekend and see how good the fit is with any luck.

hehe yeah....... not the best sounding motor i've ever had. the friggin timing chain is noisy as fuck too - even with the upgraded tensioner etc. i'm told that is just how they are, this is a low KM import motor and it's in mint condition but damn that chain is noisy!

My old N15 SSS's SR20DE used to rattle on startup..

I didn't drive it for a month or two when I was OS and when I arrived home and started it she really really rattled that time.

i think they all rattle a bit on startup - what i mean is the actual chain noise while running..... it's not really a rattle, just sounds like a bike chain running at high speed. super annoying to my ears.

some updates: have done a few things in the last few weeks. fitted up a mint condition rear bar, and front right guard after some wanker reversed into me in a carpark. air conditioning is nearly ready to go on. maroon bonnet now matches the rest of the car. varex muffler going on tomorrow with any luck (tight squeeze, fark these things are big). 3 inch dump pipe hopefully being trial fitted this weekend if i get time.

varex is on - love it. quiet as a mouse. less noise than a factory car with it closed - you can't even hear the engine running. very happy!

How loud is it when open 100%? Typical straight through muffler volume?

no it's actually a lot quieter than my old lukey muffler, definately less droney. when you're up it though it's probably similar, but just cruising around it's definately quieter. i think it helps so much because it's farkin huge - it was touch and go whether or not it would fit on the car because they're so bloody big but we got there in the end by massaging the boot floor upwards a little

it's virtually silent (no exhaust noise at all) when it's fully closed.

so i took the car in for the noise test today and the guy took one look up the tailpipe and told me to get farked. silencers etc not permitted, must be able to put a broom stick up the pipe he said.

after initially telling me he was going to report me to the EPA or whatever he backed down when i played dumb. asked him if there was any other way to make it pass and he offered to fit a standard exhaust (off the shelf) with a joiner so that I could drive around the street with the standard one on, then swap it for the 3 inch if i took it to a track day (cough cough)

so i took him up on the offer and it's going in next week. Essentially I will then have a 100% EPA legal exhaust which can be swapped in half an hour for a full 3 inch system with the varex in place. If i ever get EPA'd again the standard system goes back on for testing.

sigh. what a PITA this is.

in other news i've been in talks with a guy on PGA forums who is getting a B13 nissan sentra gearbox modified to suit SR20, these things have VLSD standard and can handle up to 450hp. This will probably go in next year, whereupon i will wind up the boost to 14psi and get a nistune. perhaps even a disco potato upgrade could be in the works. I can then use a Z32 AFM or similar to keep it all looking totally factory. hoping for 180-200 front wheel kilowatts on a safe tune. I've figured out that's how much power the car needs to be properly fun hahaha

I don't understand why the testing station would be a cunt, and "report you". They have nothing to gain except a fucktonne of lost customers after you tell everyone they're a pack of anal cunts.

Went into a place to get a roadworthy done ages ago, first place took one look at the car (WRX) and said it would never pass as it was, and that I couldn't take it with me as its illegal to let a car leave thats unroadworthy. So I drove off, got another place to do it no questions asked. Side effect is I never went back there for the thousands of dollars work i've had done since

Yet more and more cars are being released with bi-modal exhausts.

Is there someway of modifying these Varex set ups so they open under load like the factory jobbies? Receiving a signal from the TPS or something?

it'd be easy to do, but still equally illegal. they're only allowed to be fitted on cars from the factory.

this is some depressing shit, makes me just want to give up and get a standard car. all this because some douchebag thought my car was too noisy as i drove past.

    nice car.

    paint the cooler black.

i feel for you. i had the same thing happen on my FJed Gazelle. Bought a shit cheap muffler, from the testing place. Daalders in Dandy i think. Went home, changed it back.

Harley cunts do it all the time.....wonder what they would punch out db wise?

Also an EXHAUST place was going to dob you in? I'd be interested to make sure that every car that left that place was 100% legal

yeah i thought it was kinda weird, pretty nasty thing to do to someone but he said lots of dudes put silencers in temporarily (true) and go home and remove them straight away, the EPA has now put rules in place for the testers to look for temporary silencers and ping you straight away if there's one present. He didn't know it was a varex, he thought it was a plug-in silencer and therefore bad. I played dumb and he was OK after a bit. told him i wanted the big exhaust system to be easily swapped in for track days, which is true lol

I guess after this is done, i will have a full EPA-proof exhaust system that i can swap in, as well as the varex for normal duties.

just another step in the retarded march towards chronic over-legislation, this country is slowly becoming not so much fun to live in

This "put a broomstick down" sounds a bit dodgy as well. A broomstick would fit about a foot down the Pulsar's exhaust for one. And surely now the gutless cunts can ping you anonymously they should see heaps of Harley's been brought in

    How much for that gearbox?
