healey factory are good blokes - had trouble getting the 2002 through roadworthy up here after i bought it from them, they forwarded $1000 to cover the work required to get it roadworthy'd and rego'd. solid effort.
or maybe i paid too much and they could spare the cash

They ran them in the Interserie, which was basically European Can Am. Don't think they ever ran a 917/10 or 917/30 at la Sarthe, but they did crack 230mph down the Mistral straight at Paul Ricard (1.8km)

i just love that at some point, someone looked at that flat twelve in a car that weighs as much as a shoe box, and said "eh.. could use some turbo's."

would love to take one up and down the M1 one night for highway pulls against whoever i could find haha

The stock launch control ensured that our back-to-back acceleration runs were endlessly repeatable—and explosive. This car rocketed from rest to 30 mph in 1.0 second, a C/D record for street-legal machinery. In fact, that’s 0.1 second quicker than a 1001-hp Bugatti Veyron. It’s an unusual experience to be so rudely catapulted—a little like being gut-shot, we imagine.

It takes only 2.7 seconds and considerably less than half the length of a football field to accomplish 60 mph. That’s 0.2 second quicker than the 593-hp McLaren MP4-12C and 0.6 quicker than a 620-hp 911 GT2 RS. But after that, the RSR’s fatso body begins to act like a sail, and the car rolls through the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds at 126 mph—right on top of what a stock 911 Turbo S can achieve. In fact, a Turbo S nails 140 mph in 13.0 seconds versus this Turbo RSR’s 14.2 seconds. Sexy clothes have their drawbacks.

Porsche had a look at them then decided to run the 935 in the IMSA series, and wiped the floor.
Re the 917, I recall reading that Porsche had more instore for the program before the pin was pulled.
