    CA18DET 120y

The best way not to end up with an unfinished project, is to buy one that's already finished. Hence, the below.

Just had the RWC done today. Picking it up next week (as it's 600km away).

I have some plans for it, most of which involve rolling burnouts but some of which do involve making changes. Mostly just making it "mine" like prettying up the engine bay, farking off some rice items, upgrading the driveline, & fitting different rims at some stage (not a priority as the pursuities are pretty cool in their own way).

I also have a motor that I'm building up on the side with forgies etc.

    General info & mods
    Datsun 120Y four-door sedan
CA18DET short block fully rebuilt to standard specs, the only real variation being ACL cast pistons & ACL race bearings.
CA18DET head ported, polished & fully rebuilt
Garrett GT28R w/ braided lines, Earls fittings
    Haltech PS1000 ECU
    Haltech Boost Solenoid
    Hidden FMIC
Turbosmart Supersonic BOV (at least it's plumbed back)
    Handmade dump & 3" mandrel-bent exhaust
    Modified fuel tank
    R31 fuel pump
    New steel fuel lines
New hoses from front to back

    Suspension/brakes
    New suspension bushes throughout
Front has H/D coils & new shocks
Rear has reset standard leaves, additional H/D leaf & new shocks
    Maddat swaybar
    New brake booster
    New brake master
    New clutch master
    New clutch slave
    S13 CA calipers
    Std BW68 diff
    New rear wheel cylinders
    Lightened flywheel
    Exedy H/D Clutch

    Rice
    CD Player
    Autometer 5" Tacho
    Autometer Boost Gauge
    Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge

    Other
Conservative 250rwhp@14psi with a fat tune
Mod plated for motor, box & brakes

Abandoning the bluebird wagon or whatever it was you'd started on?
    Looks like a neat toy.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

    very cool for sure

any more power than that and you'll want to upgrade the fuel pump, the r31 pumps arent exactly high flowing
HR31 Coupe - RB20, Bilsteins, Cage and shit
R31 Ti - Sun Visor, Venetian Blinds, Coilovers, Whiteline Bars, Wog Stance.

Bluebird has been downgraded from 'project' to 'parts getter' now. That said, I'm conscious of rego & insurance costs stacking up so I need to work out if it's worth us having three cars and two bikes.

I have a carter lift, two 044s, a bunch of speedflow & 1000cc Sards ready to roll. Hopefully that should cover it & leave room for E85 as well.

    nice one mate...

my advice : drive it for a month or two solid. don't fuck with it (check the tyre pressures and put fuel in it). once you've worked out what you do/don't like then change those things....

God I hated these things in the 80s.... now I just wish I'd hung onto the fastback one I had for a brief period of time. That 4 door looks a treat.

I look at cars now and appreciate how far technology has come, but fuck I miss the styling of cars in the 70s (and some of the 80s). Even the 120Y looks better than half the clones on the road today.

Maybe it's just me and I'm getting old

No, it's the truth. I had some random old fella talk to me for like ten minutes today about 120ys and shit and after htat a kid walked past as I was getting in the car and said "nice car".

I've pretty much switched off my brain for new cars, Styling peaked with Countach 5000QV and plateaued with the Diablo, then it started going downhill when they had to give up the popups

I built a 120Y coupe in my teens, A14, twin SUs, new paint and all the usual Datsun upgrades such as Stanza front brakes.

Had a CA18T sitting there ready to go but ended up hitting a wombat at 80kph then a tree, thank god for the racing seat and harness!

Top buy. I wouldn't mind something like this for shits and giggles.

How would this compare to, say, a turbo GSX1400, which I can also afford?
