Methinks you need lessons in the art that is the driveway/garage skid.

heh, no steep hills for me to rolling skid against though!
Heading to the dyno Saturday, finally managed to get the new surgetank leak free. Also got the idle control valve working so we'll be able to get that fixed up also.

Another good effort! Whenever there is an event on? Just checked out the calenders. No specific events on at Wakefield until June. Might go to a speed off the streets day though, they are pretty good value for money.
I'm going to fatz Birthday bash at Marulan in June too.

Went to the dyno on the weekend past. Plumbing the screamer in has killed top end....20kW difference at same boost! The tuna wanted to use TPS with MAP compensations for load scale rather than just MAP, so got that all set up and was looking good. Dialled in 15psi, 210kW and smoke everywhere. Gearbox oil purged out the rear seal and all over the exhaust, so dyno session over, but atleast the car is in one piece.
Will return with new rear seal and screamer un-merged.

Wow...I am surprised by that difference by plumbing the screamer back in.
I recon I found the reason the screamer had such an effect......
beginning to wonder if the thread title has me jinxed. Had my last uni exam Wednesday so finished lifting out the engine today and stripped it down. The piston is as expected. Well fucked. But I wasn't expecting it to be THAT bad.
View from the top
Plans are already in place. My spare block, that had already been bored, honed and decked, will be sent out for line honing to suit the ARP main studs and with the help of a New Piston to parts will be screwed together once again and we should be good to go. A blocked injector was the cause of all this drama and I believe it was blocked for quite some time, but not completely. Was working well enough not to throw the AFR's or EGT's off majorly but as I only had the one sensor in the collector all we saw was a rise in temps. Lesson learned and 4 EGT probes and a suitable amplifier has been purchased.
I have taken the opportunity to splurge further and will be installing a 45L fuel cell, deleting the VERY nicely positioned factory tank in favour of simplifying the fuel system. The weight distribution change is a lil less than ideal but deleting the lift pump and surge tank arrangement has it's benefits in my eyes. Should also mean the exhaust will have much less of a "preheating" effect on the fuel.
Anyway thats enough of my drama. Time to move forward and take the steps to get it going again! Importantly it was doing the dance before it gave up the ghost completely, Worth pointing out these numbers are on 3.5 Cylinders! 238kw on 15psi and 250kw on 17psi

I know right! As I said, lessons have been learned, things will be replaced, additional precautions put in place and off we go again.

You'll know the car very well by the end of it haha!
Just bad luck with the injector. And as you say, making plenty of mumbo in the process. 240-odd rwkw must haul ass! That vid in the wet looked like a lot of fun!
At least you havent lost the inspiration mate, keen too see the next incarnation...
P.S: Toyota engines dont clog injectors :P
Fuck man. That is terrible luck
That video at EC would be about 220-230. The latest power plant never saw a track unfortunately. 4 or 5 dyno sessions and 2 skids in the driveway! Next one will be the same, but with EGT Probes, Back pressure will be checked throughout the exhaust system and the change to a fuel cell. We will dial in 240kW (15psi) and probably have higher boost settings already mapped. The reality is 240 in a car struggling to weigh 1050kg will be a handful on the little 225 tyres.
thanks for the support TT, certainly is. BUT these are the things we learn!

What type of EGT probe you looking at out of interest??
I bought this kit

Kit showed u. Nice piece of kit, even includes the weld on bungs which I wasn't expecting so that was nice:
And so it begins again:

Got the Pistons in. Timed the cams up last night, now to work on assembling it for good.
I was surprised how good the head came out. This thing was filthy, burnt oil everywhere and it came out like new, even the bolts came up like new.

Hopefully this is the last time I see it like this
And Head on, bit of little things to organise but hoping to lower it in over the weekend

cheers bro.
Nearly all back together and EGT probes fitted

It fought me hard all day yesterday but after alot of battling with car I have the old fuel tank and associated crap out and the engine and box are back in the car and bolted up. Now to focus on buttoning it up and the list of million little tidy-up's.
Going back together

The engine bay has been nipped up for he last couple of days waiting for me to finish installing the fuel cell.
Was hoping to start it last night but kept hitting brickwalls, beat most of them down, but early start at work meant I had to call it a night. Getting close though

I got my thing running over the weekend and have driven it! Can confirm it's worth the effort, nothing crazy obviously because a running in / tuning session is due but it did put a smile on my dial
Heres a few pics of the fuel system now. Nothing flash but turned out rather neat:
Fuel Tank GONE:
Fuel Filter worked out well, the original filler neck mount reshaped to suit:
And the boot, rather impractical now but still neat:
Today I wired in the EGT's and got the CAN hooked up between the data logger and the ECU, all is working there and I can get EGT's on the dash for tuning purposes. The fuel level sender is working and a few other tidy up jobs. Just waiting for the call on when the dyno is available and hopefully I will make a Speed off the Streets day at Wakefield in a few weeks.

Keep me posted when you head into Wakefield. Will join in also.
Looks good all finished up mate.

Thanks Alex. Getting there with it. Have made some interior tidy ups as well. I'm hoping Wakefield is soon! Just not yet.
It still goes! BUT it still has problems. We are battling high EGT's and just yesterday I returned to the local dyno to do some intercooler testing. Intercooler faired better than expected, only a 3-4psi drop. But fitment of the larger intercooler resulted in a 20hp gain....nearly EVERYWHERE. High EGT's in that it just creeps over 900 degrees on a couple of cylinders towards the end of a run. Anyone have any input on this? Timing is not spastic (or too far retarded) and we have moved from chasing 13:1 AFR's to 12.5, 12.0 and now at 11.5. 11.5 is far to rich and probably working against us a little bit, but was running about 50 degrees hotter on 12.8-13.
Results from original dyno session was 189kW at 10psi or so. Cam timing is next on the agenda to tackle the EGT's but first I will be making changes to the various coolers and getting the big one on there.
Dyno plots, revving to 7500 - 7800rpm.
I found it very interesting that the larger cooler helped the turbo come on earlier and surprised by how big a change it made even at low boost, the larger cooler only showing a decrease in pressure drop by 1 psi though, so not a massive change.

It will be inlet air temp thats changed. Flowing more air at same pressure due to lower temps.
As for the high temps hot side? My 20c would normaly be on high backpressure but with the wastegate your running i dont see how that could be?? Larger wastegate maby?
