Wolf 3dv4 and holden v8 input triggering issues.

Ok got a VS 5litre v8 running with a wolf 3d. Problem is when the input trigger is set to rising edge as per the manual the spark is about 40 deg further advanced on the crank then its set as, eg. the timing is set at 16 deg and timing light shows 50+ degs. When i set it to negetive trigger it gets closer but still about 10deg out.

The rotor button phasing is done as the manual says and double checked and the setting in the wolf for btdc is set at 60deg as the manual says. The spark also is not steady, it jumps a couple of deg up and down when the revs are steady. Help please!

not 100% up on wolf's but with a vt dizzy this is what i use on haltechs, autronics and motecs.
i use vt style dizzys in all the V8's i do weather it be a chev, ford or holden.. vt dizzy is the same as VS but the VS dosnet have the home pickup in it.

set the engine to 20deg BTDC.
set the center of the rotor button to the centre of the cyl 1 post on the cap
    set the trigger to negitave
set the trigger angle to around 90deg this will change slightly depending on exactly where you have the dizzy (most seem to be right at 95-100deg)

that should get you in the ball park. dont turn the dizzy to get the timing right change the trigger angle, if you turn the dizzy you can end up with the spark firing off the end of the post in the cap

if you have to use Postive trigger that will change it around 30deg from memory, IE the trigger angle will be a bit over 60.

changing from pos to neg changes which edge of the pickup the ecu reads from..

timing jumping around is pretty normal of lower spec ecu's not much you can do about it..

yeah i have the dissy set at 22deg BTDC. The manual says to use posative trigger but using negative trigger brings it much closer to the timing being right. So does advancing the trigger angle advance the timing on the crank or does it work in reverse?

    use neg trigger,

higher numbers in the trigger angle retard the timing,

just put the timing lock on or set the entire timing table to 20deg and change the trigger angle till you get 20deg on the pulley

bsaiclly the trigger angle is used to get the timing between the ecu and the motor to match..

say you have 20deg on the ecu and 10 on the engine with a 100 trigger angle 90 in the trigger angle should be on the money...
