    SWB Pajero L67

this is my shorty pajero, i paid $1500 for it a year ago with blown head gaskets.

This is the second shorty pajero i have owned, the previous one i jumped regularly, thrashed, took down trees, tried my best to destroy, and it never broke! which is why i bought another one.
    My last one was red.

I spent $1000 on it fully recoed the heads, did timing belt, water pump, basically a brand new whole top end.

also did cv boots for rwc.

Anyways, drove it for about 6 months, until one day i took it mud bashing, it ate mud due to a non - sealing airbox.
A month later it ground to a halt, with a major bottom end knock!

sooo..... motor and box come out, motor sold on ebay for $400 due to all the new bits.

The new engine is a vx hsv l67. 110,000 on the clock.

Was seriously tempted to go the pajero/triton commonrail turbo desiel engine, a mate has a 2009 trition and it hammers,

adaptors have been here for a few weeks,

marks 4wd adaptors $1200 worth, ouch. not worth me making just one though.

I have seperated manual gearbox from transfer, I'm going to keep the commodore auto, it is more likely to handle the power.

Made some blanking off plates for the manual gearstick, and the clutch master cylinder out of 2mm plate.

mate if you were to unregister all of your cars you'd seriously impact the state government's bottom line.

cool project btw. excuse my stupidity, does that adaptor solidly mount the back of the commodore auto to the front of the pajero transfer case?

Its actually the other way round, if i ever got a car on the road...........

Yeh, solid mount between the two, its two pieces, so bolt one to transfer, one on 4l60e and then join the two.

Sounds like fun. I was about to say you'd be suprised at how much the manual could cope with but I was thinking about the one behind the 3.5.

Any why you didnt go the ls1 option? would have been almost cheaper than the boosted six by all accounts, expensive cunts of things for reasons which I dont understand.

Wicked project by the way, I love all your left field car/engine setups.

There suprisingly good offroad. I dare say if all are standard these will outperform a stock patrol or cruiser, Its not until you lift and put long travel shocks in the live axle 4b's that they start to show up the independent front ends of the pajero. The fronts can be moded for more travel too. They are a very underated 4x4. (awaits the replys from the toyota fanbois)

On the beach they are far better than cruisers/patrols they don't sink in nearly as much. It's only when you start to really go offroad that the big boys have an advantage.

Been looking at a 4wd for a month or so now. Everyone keeps telling me Solid front is the way to go, otherwise ill regret it in the future. But I cant justify the coin of a GQ or 60 series considering how poo they are on the inside.

Been thinking Pajeros lately. That and Jeeps :S

Yeh fun car off road, no comp truck, but at 1700kg it goes a heap of places you wouldnt expect it too.
I prefer the independent front too, it suits how i drive.

Engine ecu wiring for pajero has been removed, and what i need to stay and use for new ecu has been labelled.

I bought a service manual for the pajero, it has endless very detailed wiring diagrams, so this was all very easy.

I went over to the oldies and removed the engine and gearbox from the hsv, once again forgot to take the camera. :hmm:

Took it home on the ute.

    removed gearbox from engine.

drained oil, mostly onto the concrete

I tried the commodore radiator into the jero, definatelty not a fit due to the steering box being right up front, need at least 100mm off one side.
that sux pretty bad, as the commo setup is a good looking bit of gear.

These are the hsv extractors, they look good from the outside, but once i pulled them off i found that where they are welded onto the flanges there is massive lumpy weld half-covering the holes! nice effort hsv!

put the new output shaft in the auto, probably the scariest bit of the conversion, but anyways....

bellhousing and rear housing removed, also valvebody and servo removed

all underneath clear, time to start on the guts.

    oil pump out

    front clutch drum out

    planetary gears out

all apart, happily i didnt have to remove the final bit to get the output shaft out.

finally the prize, the old output shaft beside the new.

Anyways, i got most of the guts back together,

but need a new gasket for the oil pump, so had the stop there for now.

I'm also waiting on a stage 2 shift kit thats not here yet, then i can put the valve body back in.

Got the shift kit fitted, was very extensive, lots of new bits, drilling, springs, valves, ect.

Also fitted high rpm oil pump kit, which was interesting.

gearbox is all back together now, but not yet bolted to transfer case, i need to get a welsh plug for a hole in the transfer case first.

both adaptors on and ready join the two

The commodore front sump is going to be no good in the jero, it needs a rear sump.

sump is removed from engine for test fit in jero.

I will be using the older vn-vp steel sump as a base for a new one.

In an effort to keep dirt out of the motor i wrapped the steel sump gasket in glad wrap, and bolted it back to the motor.

    Time to test fit.

sitting in the bay, i ran out of time to bolt up transfer case crossmember, and properly position motor.

It looks to me at this stage that i will have to remove the old brackets off the chassis, as they do not even close to line up with the commo brackets.

This thing should haul the mail.
I was checking out a Triton from Melbourne today at work. Running 35's and massive lift, it's also running an L67.
It was just put in place of the old L67 that was 'too grunty', alledgedly it used to smoke 33's through to third gear.

cool sound like a mad machine. Will be getting 33s after it hits the road, 1700kg + 190kw should fry first i recon as a stocko.

Moved the motor into final position, but first:

factory mounts had to get removed off chassis, they simply didnt even get close to lining up, so out came the grinder.

This is factory jero position vs commo engine position.

jero mounts gone, will also have to re-make the passenger side mount for the engine, it is factory alloy and all wrong for me, so will have to make another from scratch.

mounts, will likely reuse these, engineers like a factory look.

put pajero transfer/gearbox crossmember in and bolted up.

    engine in final position.

    Engine mounts! half done......

This is the passenger side mount off the motor, it is all alloy and goes really low to avoid the air con pump that sits right beside it. It hits hard on my front diff well before the motor is in position.

So, i had to design, and make a new mounting point off the motor, that clears the aircon. it has to fit behind it in the narrow gap between the aircon pump and knock sensor.
This is made of 6mm and 8mm plate. I am using shackle rubbers for engine mounts as i went though a heap on my last jero.

This is the adaptor to go to shackle rubbers on the drivers side of the engine, not ground and painted yet.

So now i can actually start to mount the engine, and do more on the sump.

Good work, keep the updates coming. There wont be many 4x4s that will keep up with this on the road or beach, will sure give the TD42 tractor a hiding.

until the water gets too deep that is...

The other side mount on the engine all finished and installed.

Sump so far, one side is missing so that i could make the pickup.

pickup all finished, had to make a brace back to the main cap.

    how it sits right now

started to weld the last side into the sump, but it got too late.

The mounts tacked in place onto the chassis rail, will be finish welding tomorrow.

and last of all the ktm i purchased recently, all stripped down after the weekend ride.

i am personally offended that you have put so much time into one of the biggest cunt whore models of vehicles i can think of to work on(nm and np are piles of horse vomit to work on also though, actually nt are piles of cock to work on aswell sorry,.lol.)

on the upside, you have taken on a fair bit and are doing a very good job so far by yourself.keep it up.should go quite well thats for sure.

No need to be offended, this will be a heap of fun with the auto locker in the front and long travel in the rear. Its no Patrol, but will do just fine in driving the mrs to work.
