Paint underneath is way too flash!
Not allowed to seam weld?
The rails look like they are crying out to be stitched in to the floorpan?
Yeah, thats what i was going to do when it was on the rotissary but we decided not to. We want to keep the rear end pliable. The only seam welding done is the firewall, around the strut tops front and rear. We even go to the extent of using all standard rear end bushes and standard swaybar.
The cage goes to the front strut-tops and they are seam welded (as they usually seperate from the chasis after some time).
Nice pics choppo, what weight do you think you'll be at????
Any pics of the cage???
Fuck knows lol. Everything is heavy on these things. Try lifting a diff or even a door or boot!. Everything is bloody heavy. That said, within reason, i have removed as much as i can. All the underbody/inner body deadener, tags and lugs etc etc all gone.
But then i go put another bar in the cage that negates all that work.
What part of the cage you after pics?
Are you going to use a standard fuel tank or will you have a custom one built for it??
I would love to do my car as well as you have done this, its fucking unbelievably awesome
Thanks Ova,
Funny you ask, the plan all along has been to use >>>> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ATL-17111...item43ac33b20d and build a steel box around it ala-NASCAR-. But im so god damn aware of safety, i dont really want to be carrying around 20/40Ltrs of fuel inside the boot. I seal the rear bulkhead pretty well, but in the event of a (another) big prang i would rather the fuel under and outside the car.
So in short, only yesterday i decided to use the original tank for the timebeing at least. I only use approx 20ltrs of ULP per race so i might do some research on something that is only that big and fits under the rear drivers side.
I'll finally get those cage pics up this arvo too!
Not sure what you did today, but i managed to get 1/2 a gearbox mount done lol.
Seriously took me 6hrs after mocking up bits and pieces, going and getting some 5mm steel and trial fitting...
Mock-up version 1 and 2 in Al.
Finally happy with a shape for the base part
Tack weld all together
Can't believe how long it took and it ain't even half done!
I promised some detail pic of cage etc
General cage pic
Rear cage pic
Behind firewall pics. For the knockers, yeah the bar aint straight, but impossible in my situtation to do otherwise
Cut the floor out for tall blokes lol
Note the tailshaft loop i incorporated into the trans mount area - rules are rules
I think this thread would get more views if the title was accurate.
Car looks mint.
I'll do it- What model is it? Engine?
Thanks for th car pics chopp looks great!!!
Are you planning on running side exhausts or a full system??
With the holinger how far back is the shifter from the firewall???
Cheers
You are missing 2 compulsory Backstays between the top bend of the main hoop & the rear suspension p/u point [Diagram j4 in Schedule J

Fark!!!!
To be honest i had not reviewed the new Schedule 12 as the cage was done so long ago.... anyway, ill have to get that done. Whilst there im going to removed the semi vertical member spanning the drivers door opening. I't way to close to my hand on the steering wheel. Looks good but shit design for this car and seating position.
Rowdy, nah the bar is above the steering column. The pics dont have a steering column in there - you can see the hole in the firewall for the column and its way under the column. Getting the bar over the column was major pain!
so it is... will have to get my eyes checked![]()
you won't be allowed to get rid of the sainz bar- it's compulsory now on door openings as big as are on commodores/monaros.. you can put a bend it in in front view to get it away from the wheel- which is what mine has..
overall though, very nice cage..![]()

I'll run a side pipe again i think. I've got my last one sitting here on the floor actually.
Funny enough the gear stick is in the same place as original. Mind you i purchased a new Al. bellhousing to suit a Commodore, so im assuming it was designed with the length to suit. I've not had to touch a thing with the tunnel nor gearstick opening. I shoot up a pic when i finish the mount today.
The Saintz Bar is supposed to be a single tube only, welded at the top & the base.... & inside of the door bars.
Not the way you have it with 2 bars/4 welds through the top door bar...weakens the top door bar a bit.
Also,,a short bar at right angles to the Saintz bar ,forward to the windscreen hoop...makes 2 more triangles in the front corners
^^^ this one is not "compulsory" but adds a bit more strength with not much more added weight.^^^
Still a very nice ROPS.

Thanks Dave. Understand on all points, i appreciate your input!
I've got all my seat mounts ready so i might temporarily put the steering column and seat in and take some pics showing the clearances to my hands/legs.
Agreed on single piece Saintz bar and perpendicular member - i don't think the single piece is compulsory but is logical. I’ll see how the clearances go this arvo.
Thanks again
Awesome car!
I was worried about the hand clearance on my Sainz bar (maybe 10cm clearance) but when driving it was never an issue.
