It's nice but doesn't it then feed everything through that one butt weld at the foot of the cone? Wouldn't it be better to leave the vertical tube intact for the joint? Not nitpicking- just interested.
You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape...
fuck me drunk i can weld pipe better than that with my stick welder
looks like it's been done with a MIG with the power too low and the wire speed too high. probably done by the apprentice methinks?

Today's update. Quite correctly, it was suggested that i add flanges to the gearbox mount i made last week. Constant vibration and lack of triangulation will lead to failure at the weld.
So wings were added today - pretty happy with the end result. Gotta be the most over-engineered gearbox mount ever made LOL.
Thanks Lamb!!!!

Probably mounted from underneath to a clevis that is bolted to the lower section of the cone and picking up the top shock eye with a cross bolt. It may even be an integral clevis.
These cunts have CNC mills and will spend hours/days whittling arty brackets out of large chunks of steel to out do Joe up the road.

if by apprentice you mean a generic fuckwit with no idea what constitues taking pride in your work..... then yes.
im a first year apprentice doing this sort of stuff, and i take a lot of pride in the work i do, and all im allowed to do is build the jigs and or spit roasts for the shells... but i do the very best i can each and everytime. Not meaning to brag at all, but shit work is shit work and any first year who takes the tiniest bit of pride in their work wouldnt produce anything that shit. I is purely some lazy cunt looking to rip people off at best, or contribute to injury and death at worst.
That all sounded a bit funnier in my head - not meant to sound like im lecturing or anything, but you get the idea.... i also had some incredibly funny post about the new wings not being aero.... but they lost the funny in translation from my mind to the keyboard...
RIP Carly - a smile to light the world.

Post up some pics of the bellhousing around the stater please.
Need some ideas.
Thanks
Ha yeah just wanted to take the opportunity to call you a cunt..
Pretty much along the lines of what Momus said, the inside of the cone part is all pocketed out with only 4 bosses left that an alloy clevis bolts to,then the shock has a spherical bearing on the top that a bolt passes through.
Also agreeing with what Momus said is during the design and build of the car in the photo (and all the others) no fucks were given for material cost/waste/time in the cnc's including 5axis time. The car in the photo is a 2008 VE supercar.
Sorry for the hijack Choppo! I'll stop talking now.

Some of that cage material has a texture that looks a bit like erw- rolled and seam welded sheet rather than the extruded or weld finished CDS or CDW
Cheers mate. So I guess the welding on the cone part was more so they could machine the inside rather than make the outside the right shape.
supercars would be all 4130 moly wouldnt they??
im a cunt
and apparently i dont know shit...
1021 i think dale. or a mixture between the two

Im still headbutting with the guy as to who pays/who does the new cage/refunds etc. I have complicated this by demanding he fronts with all the other parts promised originally. So basically it is one giant shitfight at the moment and to be honest, i've left it in the shed trying to forget about it for a bit and cool down before i do something drastic.
But now you reminded me, ill make the call to him now and find out what the fuck is happening![]()
Are you sure this wasn't organised by my old boss ? ? Lol sounds about as dodgy ....
Sucks that its turning into a shitfight though.... Cars are meant to bring a smile......
If push comes to shove Steve go and take what's yours, and anything else you can lay your hands on to the value of what you are owed ?
Then go to Wildo and get it recaged...
Important that this is factual.
I've just called and given Steve Hodges (Race Bred Engineering) the chance to cut out the cage and replace it (again). He said he will finish the car he has now and is happy to have mine there any of 18/19/20/21 July to work.
I locked in Friday 20th that i will deliver the car to be re-caged.

You are getting the same "builder" to fabricate the replacement cage???
Good luck ,mate.

I would probably get him to check current regs re: cages not to mention maybe get someone from CAMS to come inspect the cage at various stages of the build....

I had a cage "built" by a well-known Porsche tuner in Perth several years ago. It didn't pass CAMS inspection in the first 30 seconds, despite my giving the builder the CAMS handbook as a reference for when he built it..
