no the chassis was made in Aus. we bought it from SA and brought it back to NSW. it has gone thru alot of fabwork from when we bought it, the previous owner wasn't trying to run big numbers, so you could almost say the amount of work we have done it was almost easier to start from scratch all the work was done by GrooveRyder Fabrications www.grooveryder.com.au

thought i'd do a little update. the Comalco nugget has been getting some well earned rest for the last 3 or 4 months just been saving the cash up to finish her off. pumping money into the business and business slowing up has ate into the car funds. i want to finish everything off at once instead of bits and pieces. am about 2 full days work and $5-6k from the end hopefully by mid Feb will see a bit more movement.

just got to put the fire system in, get the sparky in to finish a couple things and she is ready for startup. the car is now a dedicated Outlaw 10.5 car, i was gonna start with 17'' training tyres, but i thought fuck it, why spend $1000 on tyres i will only do fuck all passes on. this way we can start sorting the car out from the get-go on 10.5's.

Mark Williams 9'' with 9.5'' ring gear. needed to caress the housing in a little bit to get it in

11/16 studs, 5.5'' bolt circle. decided to stay single caliper, see how i go. i may switch to dual rear caliper at later date

alloy Mark Williams driveshaft is on

2800hp gearbox installed with 10.5'' Neal Chance bolt together 7000rpm torque converter. gearbox parts ordered from Neal Trans, Norm at Northmead Auto Centre put her together for me.

pissed the Weld wheels off, went 16x16 Mickey Thompson Pro5 double beadlock drag wheels, with 33x10.5W-16 tyre. expensive wheels but they look pretty good

sits nice with the 10.5W's. it is a 16'' wheel bag to bag the 10.5W is 17'' that's why you can put them on a 16'' wide wheel

this is when it had the 17'' tyre on the back, biiiiig difference

sittin and waiting till the cash comes in

oh i forgot, engine is finished and back in the car. we changed a few little things around. was using the Comp Cams adjustable gears but i pissed them off as you could only dial in the intake. got a set of fully adjustable gears with these i can do intake and exhaust. cams were are at a 115 centreline, we advanced the intake to 113 and exhaust to 108 (help with spooling). hopefully should be all good. with these adjustable gears made things a shitload easier.

me and Norm had alot of fun putting this thing together. Norm has built alot of hi-po pushrod engines like Staunch Torana, Johnny Habib, Mark Arblaster's, this was his first DOHC. gotta say i changed his view on DOHC engines, he doesn't mind these alloy engines that have 3 cams too many as u can see still running a wet sump setup. looking to throw this into a street car, possibly the brother's Capri and do a few runs in APSA Mod Street Blown.

for function, John Mihovetz from Accufab designed it. alot of work has gone on in the inside also. John was telling me the way it's designed every single cylinder gets the exact same flow.

thanks, money willing it will roll out mid-Feb to be so close and just have the money stopping u sucks

it's a budget backyard build, however, the people that have worked on it and parts gone into it are top notch. i budgeted $100k for the build, by the end it will owe me around $135k. it will be the cheapest and probably the slowest running in Outlaw 10.5, but, i don't care i have my own goals i want to achieve and how could u not have fun mixing it up with the likes of Frank Mamone, Campo, the Gas 2JZ's, Top Doorslammers, 870ci NOS cars, every class needs a fastest and a slowest

woohoo, the cash situation is looking better and from now on it should be full steam ahead

have had a couple guys jump on board and offer some support, most notably Dragons Lair Motorsports www.dragonslairmotorsports.com, they are the biggest supplier of Precision Turbo's in the country as well as supplying alot of other automotive products. have spoken with the owner Spiro a fair bit and he loves the Ford motors so he has decided in supplying us with a couple of custom made Precision Turbos, they are very similar specs to my Garrett's however they are capable of pumping out 1200hp each. we are confident of achieving more power more efficiently with these custom Precision Turbo's.

many of you 4L Ford and Precision turbo owners may be familiar with Spiro and DLM, we are honoured to have DLM support us like this, being a small very small budget team we don't get the support from the companies like the bigger popular teams do.

TurboSmart has also jumped on with some support and we will be running new RacePort BOV's and 50mm Wastegates with 4-port solenoids. i haven't gone the AMS1000 option as everyone, we want to give the Motec M800 boost controller a try first and see how we go.

electricals are 95% done, just waiting on the extra bits and pieces, will send the car off to GrooveRyders for a few days so we can get everything fitted and mounted properly. few other little jobs and she is ready for start-up. im expecting to get out do licensing and testing in April, so we can be somewhat competitive @ the APSA Sydney meet in May.

Garrett's covered up in anticipation of the new Precision Turbo's

bit of promotion for the sponsors

was thinking of a reverse cowl for the car, decided to leave it as it is, possibly get some NACA ducts for the turbo's to have the air come in.

I want to see this run in Queensland!!!! What is the second fluid outlet for on the trans ( T piece section)?? Is that for a pit trans cooler? I think with the performance from you and your brothers, you won't be the slowest for long haha

will be taking it to QLD for the last APSA Outlaw 10.5 meet at Willowbank for 2012 and i think Jamboree also.

    it controls the line pressure.

we will have a good go, we don't have electronically controlled shocks or alot of things the other guys have. but, we will make do with what we have. main thing is i'm out there and having a great time with a little 281ci DOHC V8 and pre-historic car

TurboSmart have joined the party and jumped on board with supplying me brand new Pro-Gate 50mm wastegates and 50mm Race Port BOV's.

the wastegates are exactly the same as the ones i had previously except they are black, which fits my colour scheme better. they have 14psi spring, this should be good for around 30psi. for now we are going to limit boost at 30psi, after that i want to be pushing up to 40psi down the track. 30psi should still provide excellent, with the new Precision turbo's, if all goes well we should see around 1600hp+ (1200kw+) @ 30psi on the methanol.

the BOV's are the new designed Race Port's which are smaller and lighter than my previous ones as you can see in the picture. the good thing is everything will slip straight onto the flanges already done so that saves us having to do anymore modifying.

we are at a standstill for now, just waiting on the Precision turbo's to arrive from Dragons Lair Motorsports (DLM), once the turbo's are here we will get it into GrooveRyders do the fitup, do a couple other little things, go over the car and get it race ready and do the startup and tune. i'm hanging to get out there and finally have it going.

new BOV compared to the old one, new one is alot smaller and lighter

trying to get everything to be red, black, grey and white

this is another little goody which we have for the car, all the turbo Pro-Mod (Top Doorslammer) and pretty much most of the turbo guys in the US run a similar setup. not too hard to make if you have the right stuff. it's best known as a 'Transbrake Creep'.

being an automatic, having 2 x 76mm turbo's and only a 4.6L V8, it will take a while to get the turbo's spooling, being a V8 we are not allowed to use NOS which would get the turbo's up on boost straight away.

with this it allows us to build boost without using the footbrake, what we do is roll the car in, turn on the 1st staging light, hit the accelerator and start getting the car up on boost. once the car gets up to the boost/rpm required, we hit another button which turns the 'transbrake creep' on. what the transbrake creep does is it pulses the transbrake on and off for a couple of milli-seconds at a time, which allows the car to creep in and turn on the last staging light.

this should be a very smooth unit, which we can set to the milli-second.

here is a video of a car with a transbrake creep installed, if all goes to plan ours should work as smooth as this.

this works on any gearbox with a transbrake, it's a cheap way of making sure that you can not lag behind the NA, NOS and blown guys

the benefits of the transbrake creep are:
    •Consistent Staging
    •Build Launch Boost Before Staging
    •Consistent Launches / E.T.
    •One Touch Operation
    •Better Reaction Times
    •Allows for Lighter Brake Packages
    •Lower 60 ft Times
    •Less Stress on Driver

had a couple of sexy twins waiting for me in bed when i came home yesterday

only got a chance to mount 1 turbo today. i didn't have the stuff i needed to get the other turbo off. with the other turbo on it will definitely look pretty sexy, matches the intake manifold quite well, they wll look good hanging out of the bonnett. we are actually using the rear housings i had on for the Garrett's, we decided to run them for now as the new housings are V-band and we didn't want to make adapters for everything. they are very similar in size, Divided T4 .91 A/R to a Divided T4 .98 A/R the Precisions come with. the modulars are renowned for having alot of backpressure so see what happens.

the turbo's themselves are a Precision PT7675, bit more info
    • Exclusive CEA (Competition Engineered Aerodynamics) compressor wheel machined from a 2618-aluminum forging
    • Air-cooled, dual ceramic ball-bearing center housing rotating assembly (CHRA)
    • Higher efficiency and faster transient response for maximum power and performance
    • 76mm billet CNC compressor wheel
    • 75mm CEA turbine wheel

the Precision's are capable of pumping out over 400hp each more than the Garrett's. apart from better wheel design etc they feature a nice aluminium backplate and are a few kg lighter than the Garrett's. i have taken a few pics to compare as well.

    comparison Precision PT7675 (1200hp) vs GT4202R (1000hp)

now with the Comp cover off

    Garrett GT42R

    Precision PT7675

alot of people talk up a product they get sponsored with, because they get it for free. but, we already had turbo's so it's not like we needed them. we got offered a fantastic opportunity by Dragons Lair Motorsports and i thank them for that. anyone i have spoken to in the last couple of years i have always told them to get Precision's, at the time i got offered the Garrett's for a great price and being a budget racer sometimes you make compromises.

here is a link to the turbo's that DLM has provided me http://www.dragonslairmotorsports.co...roduct=5698360 if you are looking to upgrade to turbo or just get a new one, have a chat with Spiro, DLM is the largest Precision dealer in the country and i know a fair few guys that Spiro has helped with their turbo combo's from everyday cars to strip/circuit beasts.

i am off to see Groovy tonight and work out when he can fit me in and get a few things finished. hopefully by the end of this month if all goes well, i can crank it up and get out their for some testing. it's finally dawning on me the time is here, the butterflies are starting, jumping from a 14-second street car to a potential 6-sec 200mph+ car with only a 100'' wheelbase and to make matters worse, one that has only a 10.5'' tyre, i have seen Top Doorslammer drivers with years experience not want to drive on a 10.5W tyre, so what am i thinking haha

running a Motec ECU certainly has it's benefits, decided to simplify the Transbrake Creep, so what was once this

    has now become this

the old transbrake creep will not go to waste, will put that in the brother's Capri, it doesn't really need it, but, he wants it, so all good money did not go to waste.

hopefully get the car into GrooveRyder's sometime this week, can get all the turbo's mounted and a few other little bits and pieces done, get the bonnet glassed up for the turbo's. finish the wiring up and few other little jobs. want to start her up within the next month or so.

Using the older style TA45 turbine housings ? Any reason not to run current GT/PT T4 turbine housings?

used them to try and spool a little quicker with the GT42R's, 1.01 or something like that is the smallest the GT42R's come with. plus they were already on there saves having to take them off and do the V-Band type. will give them a go, they should be ok. they are a .91 Split, whereas the PT ones are .98 if not won't be too hard to change them out if need be.

the car is gone to GrooveRyder's for a short stay and get a bit of work done. all the work Groovy had done on it all came rushing back and haunting him was a terrible day to take the car down, as luck has it soon as the towie came to get it, it starts hammering down. go to give a big thank you to Greg from Smart Tilt Trays in Windsor for taking the car (my mate that usually tows it is in Thailand enjoying the ladyboys ) done an absolutely fantastic job, car went up quick, he usually tows show and drag cars so it's good having a guy with experience and who takes care. if your in need of a tow and your in the North West Hawkesbury area give Greg a call.

hadn't gone anywhere for soooo long, was glad to see the back of it

was sick of one sexy twin on the car, so i added the other. pictures don't do it justice. looks great with it on there.

we are looking at doing the intake pipe shorter this time. should look pretty good, Groovy should have it knocked up over the next few days

not handy, he did a hand drawn pic, which was scanned to PC and printed, i don't think it's clear/dark enough to photocopy or scan again, i will have to go over it with pen first. from looking at it first time it was pretty simple would be the exact same setup as the Haltech i would say.

yeh if you could that would be good, does it tell you what map to use in the motec?? i have a idea that i will be able to control how much the car moves with a press of the button but not sure if it is the same as this way etc...

popped in to GrooveRyder's today to see James n check the car out and got pretty excited at what i saw staring back at me, the car is looking pretty horn

with this new intake pipe setup gives a car a much meaner and tuffer look than before the perfect match for the sexy new Precision Turbo's!

Groovy said it looks like an upside down Dodge symbol? yep i agree. added a little part of Dodge back into it

slowly but surely getting there, GrooveRyder has finished the fire system, unfortunately Motorsport Connection was out of bottles, will get some in the next week or so. went with a twin 10lb fire system in the car with 6 nozzles, 1 at the gearbox, 1 pointing at my feet, 2 at the fuel tank and 2 at the engine. following in the black theme MSCN did all the fittings for me in black instead of the traditional red/blue.

mock-up to get the bottle height right

finished off the brakes yesterday, got rid of the old master cylinder and put a new Wilwood dual master cylinder in, makes things a bit easier. added a line lock (for burnouts locks front tyres only)

also replacing the door handles, the old ones were very scary, i was a little worried being in an accident, if the doors didn't fly off in the crash, i would pull the door handle and it would snap off

still got to do the engine diaper, need to run some line for a sensor into the manifold bolt flange so we can log the turbo back pressure (too much pressure kills alot of power) and we are doing a transmission oil cooler ice box, figured it doesn't hurt to have one. i could have got one from the US but figured Groovy could design me something instead, he had some good ideas for it. hopefully can take her home next week.

popped in for a little visit to see GrooveRyder, balanced all the front end, did the EMAP sensor (for logging of backpressure) and finished off the engine diaper. lightweight alloy, made it nice n high so even if we blow a head gasket no/very minimal amount of water will end up under the tyres. very easy to take off and put on takes about 1-2 minutes. it won't be coming off very often so that is good. gonna have to organise a diaper for my ass also incase i shit myself

    before

    after

    sides

    Mazda 121 door handles

will be back home next week

no big fancy rear end, but hopefully should be good enough for 6's.

not much left to do, everytime i go in always find something extra. dump pipe trim, ECU panels etc, mounting of display dash and ice/water transcooler.

Getting close. I like the belly pan, I cannot get the victorian andra tech inspector to sign off on one for my VK, he wants a diaper only.
