bit of extra special news this week, the car was nominated for 2011 Street Machine of the Year, as u can imagine everyone that has been involved is absolutely ecstatic about it, especially considering the Elite cars in the magazine over the last 12 months. it's not the typical car you'd find up for a SMOTY but we hope we get a few votes from the people who like a low 8-sec true street car. here's a link, includes the article on the car from the May issue also http://www.smoty.com.au/comps/smoty2...aspx?Code=MI10

it'd be a fun race, Hayes's gone 7.80's when Joe's dips into the 7's should tee it up, 2 of the fastest street legal cars in Australia racing each other. unfortunately they race in different classes in the APSA Joe's in Mod Street and Hayesy's in Pro Street.

cheesebiscuit thanks mate, the insanity is just starting, Joe has big plans for the car in the future there is still ALOT further to go with the 1UZ, the heads are just tickle up with a race port, more comp, custom manifold, bigger turbo's, intercooler etc. it makes 1150hp@30psi now hoping for an extra 100-150hp at the same boost with the new motor.

we have taken the Capri out to WSID a couple times the last couple weeks for a bit of funs at the Wednesday night street meets. we are now running her on the street on the Caltex e-Flex E85. it's amazing how much better even the pump E85 is than BP98, soooo much more torque and power. before on 22psi with BP98 best we could run was 9.02@149 with the Caltex E-Flex E85 on 17.5-18psi it can run a 8.9@152 with no problems

obviously the car has run alot faster 8.2@166 but on Wednesday nights at WSID your not allowed to run faster than 9.0, we dipped into the 8's a couple times but fortunately they let us keep going if we turned the boost down.

thanks Uncle, it's a street car first and foremost, you can jump in it and take it for a cruise whenever you want and not get hassled by Police being a 4L DOHC it doesn't have the rumble as a normal V8 does. even if you do get pulled over by Police, it's fully engineered so they don't have anything to say. the beauty of a turbo car, is you could even drive a 6-second turbo car around on the street. low comp, EFI u can't go wrong

basically just ur usual checks, check the fuel

check the tranny oil, has a NealTrans Limited Street Glide box and Norm from Nothmead Auto Centre has gone over it all make sure nothing happened during transit. we change the oil every 3 or 4 meets or few 1000km's of street driving.

check the engine oil. same Brad Penn oil has been used for at least the last 6 or 7 meets, oil still like new. he takes it out every weekend for a drive, probably clocks up 200km of street driving a week.

after a meet, the next day just put the street plugs back in. he could drive around with the race plugs in but is a little worried they may foul up on the street. it's a 15 minute job to change plugs anyway.

at the track we just swap to slicks, change plugs, put the chute on, take the pod filters off, take the wipers off, put the wideband sensor in for logging and that's it. the motor has done close to 200 passes on the track and dyno. Toyota has built a tuff little engine in the 1UZ.

ALLMTR, i know Joe would love to do a Drag Week, if we win lotto then we will tak it but would have to put a funny car cage around the driver, from what Arby told me if u run 8.5 or quicker u need the FC cage.

it would do well on a Drag Week cruise. the car runs good on the street even during summer sits on around 190-200, i think operating temp on the 1UZ is around 210. she was only getting up to 190-200 after a pass yesterday and 170-180 on the drive there.

If its not too top secret I'd be interested to see or hear more about the rear end setup in this thing. My Capri is minitubbed with the leafs moved in but it doesn't really hook for shit so I'm looking for ideas. Same deal though its primarily a street car...

no probs. nothing too special under there. like u it's tubbed, springs moved in, set of Caltracs. runs Strange shocks (no spring) set on soft. runs 60/40's on the front. has went 1.285 60' best, hopefully it's got more in it.

Thanks man. Decent shocks and caltracs are what I'm missing. I have xb gt type tramp rod things on top of the diff. Seem to stop the spring winding up but don't help to plant the tyre much. Will this thing be cruising around at supernats?

i think but not 100% sure on that, we run a best of 1.291 with those crappy blue pedders shocks in there we haven't played much with the ass end at all. Joe Gauci popped under there at a recent meet and just had a look and softened the shocks, we haven't had a chance to test it yet on a proper prepped track. however we ran a 1.36 60' @ a street meet last week that is the best it has ever 60'd on a Wednesday night meet, but that could also be because of the switch to E85 and it pulling harder out the hole. the caltracs have helped a fair bit, i think it was 60in mid 1.3's without them. definitely worth investing a few hundred bucks into getting.

yeah we will be out at the Supernats cruising around n that, feel free to pop over have a better look under the car and a chat

Mark's car has a baby hydraulic 498 in it and would be lucky to run a ten with a tailwind. It's Pro Street racing days are done.

700rwhp causes traction issues also i think he will only be running the 22psi street E85 tune at Supernats. not sure how much power that equates to, close to 750rwhp i'd say.

what you got in the Capri? get Joe to suss it out, or if Mario is there (helped us set the car up) im sure he would be happy to have a look and let ya know.

2rismo, is he selling it or keeping it? i coulda swore i saw it for sale at APSA meet at WSID.

Don't think he'll ever sell it. 632ci is still for sale cheap though.
