A coupe this isn't. But it's a nice interpretation of the 80s CRX shape. I might be imagining things, but the dash layout seems not dissimilar to the i30... possibly a similar chassis and firewall? It would mean RHD is possible.

Also lol at the Japanese diehards, there hasn't been a single interesting 'consumer' car to come out of Japan in at least five years.

Koreans are smart they have all their styling studio's in Europe so they get to utilize all that skill..

I don't think the Chinese are willing to do that and styling is not something you can steal..

Plenty of Japanese companies have European studios too though. I think some of the worst designs in Toyota's current range were done in France!

    Designed for left hand drive.

BM gave no fuck for those in RHD territory and kept the right hand door to save on production costs.

Cannot see Hyundai changing door to left much either.
Why would you when the LHD market is where your volumes are at.

you don't want two little dick doors on the driver's side, and they were designed to have the big drivers door (the mini that is) but i think that's what you are saying.

if it bothered you in the UK you could just buy a LHD one and drive that, which brings its own set of problems, none bigger than the fact you could have any car you wanted for cheap and picked a mini with stupid doors.

Oh boohoo. Replace "consumer shopping trolley/SUV" with "performance car" and the shoe is on the other foot. I know which segment is more inetresting out of the two.

But even so, you saying the Toyota bB/Rumion, iQ, Nissan Juke 16GT, Cube, Leaf, Mitsubishi i-Miev, Honda Freed Spike (know that one?), Insight etc etc aren't interesting for consumers? Or aren't interesting because they aren't (all) sold in Australia?

Nearly all of those are jdm only models, and thus are irrelevant to the outside world. Also they're all just typical jap one-box stuff. Meh.

This Hyundai isn't some kooky microvan, nor is it a hybrid wank box. It's something of a hot hatch or sport(ish) car. A style of vehicle the Japanese seem to have completely forgotten about.

Juke is sold in the EU, Leaf will go worldwide, bB/Rumion are sold as Scion (the Rumion is an Aussie delivered model too), the iQ is sold in the UK and soon to be worldwide, the Insight is worldwide, the i-Miev is sold in the UK... yeah all JDM-only irrelevance in that group... And I'd hardly call the Leaf, bB/Rumion and Juke one box stuff... do you even know the cars at all?

What would you call the Toyota Blade Master G V6? Let me guess, a wanky irrelevant Jap shitbox... And before you say it's not available in Australia, neither is the totally awesome Hyundai wundermobil in the first post.

I was thinking that this Hyundai with it's 2passenger 1drivers door might make it a 3 seater, but the interior shot doesn't infer the offset drivers position. No idea why I would think that, but there you go.

Theres actually some amazing styling coming through now too, China's own I mean, not rip offs - not whole cars yet, just parts of. The botton line is still the quality control from multiple suppliers, from what I have seen and know basically it will never be right and you will have this ...

I can not see this ever changing without the money input for QA and QC and that will simply up the price of the cars so they are no longer dirt cheap competitive.

Oh and as for the Hyundai Coupe thing above, it's nice to see something akin to the old Honda CRX again.

But Hyundai's version, unlike the Mini, is likely to be offered in two separate builds, dependant on whether the car is left- or right-hand-drive (the Mini's rear door is behind the driver's, meaning backseat passenger's have to enter and exit the car on the traffic-side).

I hadn't heard of the Leaf, google tells me it's electric - pass. The bB is a boxy Corolla - pass. The Juke is an ugly piece of shit that is neither fast, nor economical - pass. These mythical sports hatches/ coupes are where exactly?

I'd forgotten about the Blade Master G, but it's auto and jdm only. Also you missed that this Hyundai is brand new, yet to be released anywhere and appears that it will be available in Australia. Korea - 1, Japan - 0

Don't get me wrong, I love Jap stuff. But even the most diehard of fans should realise that the Japanese have completely forgotten how to design an 'exciting to drive' car for under $60K. They are where the Europeans were in the 90s - heads crammed firmly up their arses from past glory, oblivious to the shifting market around them.

I'd tend to agree. Just look at Toyota. Their biggest selling models are basically sell because they're whitegoods on wheels and reliable. When was the last time they made an "exciting" car, even if its only a mainstream model?

The bigger issue is in the developing countries. When I was in South America, I reckon every second or third car or van I saw was a Hyundai. They are kicking major goals.

Shit the Japs took 40 years to sort their shit out, the Koreans 20...Id suggest the chinese might get it sorted even quicker. Three of those four are six fucking figure cars! This is the whole problem! Where are the cheap, well designed mass market hatches and couples that are enjoyable to drive?

Even 30 year old Hiaces are engineered for different door combos for left/right markets. How hard can it be?
