    Glenn's BMW

    Hey guys
I'm new to this forum and thought I would share my project and a bit of back round. My name is Glenn and I am 20 years old. I have always been into racing as dad use to be a rally navigator so he always took me different hill climbs, street sprints and rallies. In 2009 a bought a 1990 BMW E30 318is after writing my first car (an Integra) off. Something that always happens to p-platers. I wanted to have a go at hillclimbs as they seemed like a really easy way to get started. So I sent my entry off for mt Cootha hillclimb. Obviously I couldn't race in a standard car so I bought a set of coilovers (up for sale), a set of Xxr wheels and a rpm race harness. Shortly before my first event my clutch shit itself so I went out and bought a lightweight single mass flywheel and heavy duty clutch. After coming 3rd in class and having a ball I decided I wanted to get a bit more serious. So out went most of the interior, got a full exhaust and a 4.11 LSD. After this I did Noosa hillclimb and mt cotton. I concentrated on making the car handle really well, so I added so thicker m3 sway bars and took all the extra weight out (a/c, carpet, etc). I also got a fixed back seat as the standard seats are flatted than boards. After doing a few more events at Noosa and mt cotton I decided I wanted to get more power. The original plan was to stroke out the m42 to 2.1L, than I saw a 2.5 m3 motor come up for sale over in the states. I deal was really good. Full 2.5L Evo bottom end, full head work, 284/276 cams and alpha n carbon airbox. It also came with clutch, gearbox and driveshaft, basically everything you need for the conversion. The original plan was to put the motor in the current car, but after a few to many scratches I decided to get a new car. Its still an e30 just an 84 model which means I move into to classic rules in improved production. Anyway here are the specs for the new and old car and some photos.

    1990 BMW 318is.
Full stainless steel exhaust, custom headers
BC racing coilovers, 8kg front, 10kg rear
    Xxr 15x8” 0 offset
    Toyo R888 225/50 R15
    OMP seat
    rpm 4 point harness
    4.11 big case LSD
    AASCO Motorsport 9lbs flywheel
    Excedy heavy duty clutch
    Stripped interior

    1984 BMW
    Engine -
2.5L Evo bottom end, VAC motorsport stage 2 head. 284/274 cams, 38mm throttle bodies, carbon fiber airbox, alpha-n piggy back ecu, mushimoto radiator
    Driveline -
Sachs heavy duty clutch, euro dogleg close ratio gearbox, DTM shifter, 4.11 big case LSD.
    Chassis -
Full weld in roll cage, custom flared guards, ground control coilovers, willwood big brake kit, all new suspension bushes, lots of other shit I can't remember.

Let me know if you decide to put standalone management on it and want to sell the Alpha-N pigyback...

That engine would be awesome in an E21.

Nice car, I saw this at Mt Cotton, did some impressive times, was trying to work out what was done to it. This answers those questions. Looking forward to see what happens with the new car as well.

You saw that??? lol not as bad as I first thought. I the lower control arm is bent which put alot of setback onto the left wheel, so I drove the rest of the day with the steering wheel about 2 inchs off centre lol apart from that, just scratches and a shitload of grass and mud lol

Very good times, although you technically only hold it because there was no record before hand but either way in that class that time should stand for a little while.

Very nice!! Good luck with the new build.

If you're log booking it as 3J you'll need to get some new wheels.

Quite good, if anything a little soft on the track, but with a roll cage they should be great

Are you sure the throttle bodies aren't 48mm? 38 sounds a tad small.
