having done the 4bt cummins swap, and being in the process of another i reckon the 4bt in a patrol would only be ok. gearing it high enough would be a drama and the cunt is 3 feet tall ! a 6bt is too fucken heavy. the b series cummins motors seem an awesome thing though.

from what i can gather gm designed them to make mounts and shit all the same, so anywhere a sbc will go so will a duramax. aren't they all aloy too ? i spoke to a bloke at powercruise with one in a patrol and he reckoned it was easy to fit and awesome.

the 6.2/6.5 things brunswick diesel sells are overpriced pos from what i can gather.

Hence the reason why any old truck for sale with an old Chev diesel is priced like a brand new V8 diesel cruiser. They must have been raped on the conversion.

In that duramax GU thread a bloke mentions that bullet sell duramax and old chev diesels. Old Chev 6.5 rebuilt with blower, $47k drive in drive out. Lolwut.

$30k USD new. Surely a new GM spare parts engine/trans/loom/ecu would be less than $10k USD?

Else employ a grinder monkey to chop a low mile one and ship ot Oz.

I think the cummins is recessed into the ram firewalls a fair way. They are a big piece of iron.
yeah 3 cylinders or so. its not that they are recessed into the firewall, chrysler brought the windscreen heaps forward on alot of their cars around 94-04ish. "cab forward" design iirc

I really need one of these now, the dirty RD28's injector pump is fucked.

Found a 7.3 powerstroke for sale for reasonable money, what's the consensus on these?

Powerstroke 7.3 is a BIG motor. I'd be running the tape measure over everything 30 times to make sure it will fit.

Other than that I reckon they're an untapped resource because everyone is all 6.5 Chev this and 6.6 Duramax that. The Powerstroke 7.3 was one of if not the main cornerstone of the US diesel tuning revolution.
Even look into the latest 6L Powerstroke.

theres quite a few duramax's on ebay USA for around $6.6k. better than what the aussie retailers are selling them for (by a fair margin)

depends on how long your willing to wait for it and how fucked you can be dealing with shipping i spose.

Drove a F350 with a 7.3, towing a 30ft box trailer with a small race car in it... Epic grunt. Was funny smashing SS utes towing similar race cars on open trailers up hills...

powerstroke`s are nasty to get powered up, they use HEUI -Hydraulic actuated injectors, driven off their own oil pump, getting enough flow from the HEUI pump to push huge injectors is a very large, very expensive issue.

it can be done for sure, but big money to do it.

6.2 and 6.5 GM V8 smokers are mechanically strong, but have terrible flow and $ per HP (compared to the duramax, cummins etc)

There's an LB7 on ebay for $9500 that has been listed for ages. Might have a look at it but it seems a little sus, doesn't start, claims to be low kms but the seats are fucked etc.

Got the engine finally. It's a big sucker. They appear to be built with every known restriction available, no wonder they respond to mods so well. Needless to say I will be binning all the gay shit and perhaps compounding with a 4088 if the owner allows me/turns away for long enough.
