    1MZ-FE idle

Just got a question about this, Im driving around in my brothers Camry today which has the 1MZ-FE with a manual gearbox.

First question is it idles its head off at about 1800rpm when its cold, and then drops back to about 750rpm once the operating temp gets up.

Secondly, it seems to hold the rpm for about 2-4 seconds before backing off. For example, your accelerating along, back off the accelerator and it maintains the rpm's for 2-4 seconds before dropping off.

Its a pain in the arse, especially when your driving in traffic.

That idle seems normal. My 2AZ 4cyl does the same.

My brother had the previous Camry (99ish model) with the same engine and 5 speed as well and Im sure it didnt hold the rpm when you took the foot off to coast along.

And yeah its fucking annoying as hell.

it's more noticable when you have the clutch in and do it, it's like a poxy version of rev matching. Probably to make the gearbox live longer

Fair enough so it's just normal then. It's probably less noticeable in a auto as well which is what the majority would be in Camry's.
