Engine dies when I give it full throttle...

If I feed the throttle in gently, the engine will pull cleanly and strongly throughout the rev range. However if I'm cruising and then stand on the throttle the engine literally dies in the arse.

It's a 350 Chev with an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. I've just replaced a heavy float that was causing the carb to flood, and I was hoping that this might also sort out the problem I just described but no luck.

    Suggestions?

Accelerator pump maybe? It's currently set in the middle hole so I can move the arm up or down one hole to give it more or less of a squirt.

Are the secondaries vacuum or mechanical? This sounds like a classic symptom of a mechanical secondary - you need to use the throttle a bit more wisely with these.

Yeah, I don't get the point of mechanical secondaries on a street car. As long as the spring tension is correct on the second butterfly, you'll still get the same amount of air and fuel at WOT, and your throttle transition behaviour will be way better

Throttle transition is fine with mechanical secondaries, just need to use the right 'cam' on the secondary linkage

Those 600 AFB style carbs may be mechanical secondaries but they have a vacuum operated air valve above the secondary butterflies. You can alter the spring tension/opening rate of that air valve and a too heavy spring may cause a stumble also maybe try a smaller metering rod just incase it's going too lean on cruise and just can't recover when you mash the throttle.

And as above make sure your dizzy is getting 12v and not going thru a ballast resister, HEIs hate anything other than 12v.

Oh they fit good. Look here for an LS3 swap into the same model Camaro as mine.

What state is your air cleaner in? If the aircleaner is near its max flow rate, if filthy, it may be acting as a restriction

The air cleaner is fine. If it was a restriction then it wouldn't pull cleanly on a gradual applied throttle either.
