Thread: my new 4runner 3.8 V6

    my new 4runner 3.8 V6 soon to be turbo

    picked this up yesterday off a young bloke on ebay
    he started a V6 conversion and then lost interest
    already has a VP V6 fitted with a rebuilt T700
    he bought one of the V6 conversions kits to make it all wok
    I just have to wire it up(came with the new loom)
    also need to lengthen one tailshaft and shorten the other
    and plum up the A/C and P/S hoses all up
    already has 2" body and 2" suspension lift
    retrimmed interior
    roll cage


    my plans are
    either twin turbos using 2X RB20 turbos or a GT35 single
    making the manifolds using thick walled pipe
    im leaning towards single just because it will be a bit cheaper
    but twin high mount turbos would look fucking sick

    single 3" exhaust
    modified inlet
    33" tyres
    tune the standard ECU
    vapour injection LPG
    FMIC

    got it for $3500 which isnt to bad ....trying to find one with the combo I wanted was pretty hard

    Yeah the standard 5 speeds are weak as piss
    the T700 are the strongest either but better then the manual
    plus its better for 4wding
    should be ok with a shift kit in it

    well finally got her started today
    started up nicely but didnt run it for long
    shes a bit loud with no exhaust at all
    Im going to get the header flanges cut tomorrow so I can start on the turbo manifolds
    and ill take it into work sometime during the week to start on the manifolds etc

    I still find it funny ARB actually converted and sold 4wd Hiluxs and 4Runners with the 3.8 moo as new cars.

    they still had to be better then the 3vz they came with

    pretty unconstructive day today
    I was hoping to start on the manifolds and I was going to make the flanges but that turned out to be a cunt of a job so Ill just order some tomorrow
    got intercooler mounted
    and a few other little things
    also ported the TB

    little more progress this weekend in between fathers day and my daughters birthday activities
    got the drivers side manifold cut and tacked together
    and started on the passenger side but ran out of pipe so couldnt finish it

    manifolds are done
    coils relocation started...wiring extended etc
    got the cross over/merge made and tacked together
    also picked up a garrett GT3540
    my stepper gauges finally arrived as well after a month of waiting
    oil pressure,EGT,water temp and boost
    will be ordering the pipe to make the exhaust this week
    and try and get it into work so I can finish it off

    Steve, i have a twin cab hilux with a V6 T700, fucking great thing but a diff change is a must or you wont keep fuel up to it...

    ive got a diffs out of an auto surf 3.8/1 ratio, 31'' tyres does 2200@100km/h

    yeah I might have to look into gears not shore what gears are in it atm I havent even looked...33" tyres will help as well
    she will be running on LPG too

    getting close now
    IC piping all done plenum done and fitted,turbo and manifolds all fitted
    there a little bit of wiring to do fit transgo Stage 2 shift kit and corvette servo
    fit walbo pump finish the rear bit of exhaust and im pretty much done
    3.5 dump into 3" system
    standard delco 808 ecu modified to run tuner pro RT

    pretty much done now just need to finish the tune and sort what ever little issue may arrive
    first attempt at tuning last 1.5 on the dyno before the box died
    I sourced a built craigs automatics box which i sent back to craig for him to check over and reco the standard converter and turned out to be in not so good condition so got it all fixed up and put my stage 2 shift kit in to replace the full manual valve body
    got it all back in and no 3 -4 gear so ripped the valve body out and put the full manual valve body in
    so she is now full manual T700 shifts hard as fuck chirps 32" tyres with under 1/2 throttle on gear changes

    The cooler doesn't know if its black or white. Temporary cooler location in last pic?

    Will being interesting to see how it goes all done. Engine bay looks impressive for a 4x4.

    yeah cooler is just cable tied there for the moment i want to get a bigger one so i dont want to mount it yet plus I have a engine oil cooler so I have to try and make room for them both which is gunna be hard because theres not much room behind the bar its already 50mm further forward then factory
    I wanna get it on the dyno tomorrow thats if I have the motivation haha
    its taken to long to get done with all the gear box issues and im just about over it

    Looks great! I remember Crack on here had some issues with 2 bolt flanges on his ecotec turbo manifolds sealing reliably though and he upgraded to 3 bolt.

    Can you give a rundown on the 808/tuner pro setup you are using? I don't know alot about it but it looks interesting.

    you remove the eprom and replace it with a NVram board and a coms port and away you go tuner pro RT 5 is a free download an american guy developed it to tune his car he has a web site and forum its all free
    the guys on delco hacking made the NVram and com port board it miles ahead of kalmaker
    with the these installed you use a custom operating system of sorts called OSP 12P
    gives you switchable maps 5 flex out puts choose between 4,6 or 8 cylinder and a heap more
    its real time tuning with map tracing even has auto tune just wire you WB02 in and it will tune the VE table
    go onto delcohacking forum and check it out if you want to know more
