    Tyres for the bike...

    Howdy lads!

Will be blue slipping and transferring rego of the vtr to nsw in the next few weeks and am going to need a new rear tyre as it's at the wear indicator, while i'm at it i'll grab a front one I guess too.

Don't want the most expensive high performance tyre on the market, what I do want is something that will go well in wet and dry conditions and give reasonable life.

    Keen to hear some suggestions

    Cheers

I ran bridgestone BT-45s on the GS500 for a year and they were great, could get plenty of lean on them and i rode rain hail or shine without fuss. Good cheap reliable tyre. If you plan on really pushing the bike maybe look at something in the michelin pilot range etc.

I ran dunlop GPR12 on my learner bike.

Great tyres and had reasonable wear. Got around 7000km out of a set.

7000km out of tyres on a learner bike is terrible! Should get 2-3 times that!

Pick whatever is cheapest without going for some crazy yum-cha brand and you'll be fine.

GPR12's are pretty much a dot race tyre for small bikes (kinda), hence the low ks

    Fairy nuff.

Can't remember what I ran on the learner bikes I had, mostly just what came on them. They were all 250's though.
Never had any traction dramas on any of them, the ZX10's a different story though, wheelspins all over the place until the tyres are warm.

Still rather have 7000km with sticky rubber than 15000km with ice skates....

    Bump..

Ducati is due for tyres, have booked it in for them in 2 weeks. Just need to pick a tyre.

Dunlop Q2's or Pilot road 2's or pilot pure's.

Just chasing some opinions on all three?

    Cheers lads!

What sort of, riding do you do? The road 2's will be best for longevity if that's a consideration.

A lot of cruising/fanging round on the road. Have found that so far in the colder months i've not ridden too much, so might go a slightly grippier tyre than a longevity tyre.

Am thinking the dunlops but am always open to suggestion

Newish Sportsmart by dunlop, had a mate who runs very decent times at lakeside use them on his tuono for both road and track, he rated them.

I've got the Pilot Road 2's (second picture anyway, not 100% on the exacts) on the DRZ. The rear has been lacking in the wet recently with 7000 km's and 3 years use but it still has good tread on it. Not sure if it's because I'm pushing harder, more aware of what's going on or because they're starting to go off. Front is still excellent in the wet and good in the dry.

I used to be a huge fan of the Michis, but they've lost me in later years

On the last few bikes I've had, the tyres I've come to like are:
    Conti Road/Race Attack (R/F)
    Maxxis Presa Sport
    Shinko Super Soft 003 Stealths.

I never did a lot of wet weather riding, but the Shinkos and the Contis held well when the sky started leaking.

If you only have a choice of the three I'd go pures or q2

    I reckon Dunlop Q2's.

    -good in all weather conditions
    -last a fairly long time
    -good grip
-not bad even on the track
    -very well priced

If you want more grip there are a heap of options but I probably wouldn't go for anything with less grip than a hypersport tyre. Some of the sport tourer tyres last forever but they are normally more expensive so that kind of offsets the gain in mileage anyway. You also can't get something for nothing so the extra durability means less grip.

I'd be surprised if you didn't get 10,000 kms out of a set of Q2's anyway. How many km's have you ridden so far? For most people that's probably 2 years riding. How much are they asking for the Q2's fitted?

The Power Pure's are probably fairly similar to the Q2's but I've never ridden them. I have ridden the Q2's and can recommend them.
