No, just a hack to do motorkhana, autocross, hill climbs etc in. It is something we can chuck on the back of the trailer and both have fun in.

So, I lobbed in the suspension.
It has dropped the car 10mm. Not exactly what I was promised.

Although now when I press down on the bonnet, the rear does not rise up and the front does not touch the ground.

Will see how we go on the track in a couple of weeks time.

    New clutch in. Thanks Ben.
Old clutch had melted the resin and thrown it around inside the bell housing.
Man did it stink. You can still smell it when you walk past the car.

Now to look for seats and a roll cage (weld in)

Nah, Sam wants too much, but this one will be a quickish club event car.

Got offered a brake package yesterday from NZ, but it again is more than I paid for the car

No Pics states "If the Rolla turns into a rally car, then the Mazda has to go......"
And we do not want that.

yeah I reckon it's a damn good thing.. I hope, once i have a wooshodore sorted to get my AE82 to general club level stuff as a cheap option... although the AE82 is probably 2 weekends work to get done, and the wooshodore is about 30....

the willwood stuff that bazda does as a kit?? looks good..

your nopics and my nopics would get on well i think....

    @ Rowds,
Yep, the kit is quite popular.

He has been able to set up a kit for the Familia for a very good price.
Should be here in a couple of weeks.

Should have bought the suspension from him also. Would have worked out better.

@Gammaboy. It looks quite good when you see it. From a distance it does look good.

Did more work last night whilst I am waiting on bits for the Mazda.

With the rolla was up on stands, I thought it might be prudent to fit an exhaust, so I went and got a quote. eek, I did not want to spend that much. $500

A full system was sourced from Toymods for $180. Is in the Aluminised material, so should not rust easily. I picked it up last night here in Adelaide and have half of it fitted already.

Taking off the old exhaust, I found it had been welded up numerous times had a few seals missing and had blown holes along seam lines that could not be seen until the exhaust was fully removed.

Oh, also fixed some hangers that were a bit lose.
Will see if I can complete it tonight.

Exhaust fitted and sits out of the way of the sump guard.

20 valve extractors and secondaries did not fit. One of the pipes interferes with the starter motor.
Would also need a narrow spacer to push the manifold out from the head.

Bent up some exhaust pipe and customised some other tubing to make it fit.

Extractors I bought earlier fit well. Alan head bolts needed so the O2 sensor could be fitted.

Sounds very nice now. Has a nice murmur to it when idling. Does not sound asthmatic at all. It does not rattle and there are no leaks

Will put the rally tyres on the rims, sump guard back on and get a new alternator belt and it is all ready for the 1st round this season.

    And new suspension in

I think i can help you out on the brake upgrade front. I made up a set of brackets for Gav's AE92 to use some 280mm discs and the Wilwood calipers.

I still have the CAD file if you wanted to get some cut and then you can tap them yourself. Also have some Wilwood calipers that i wont be using as im switching to a larger piston size to balance F/R. But the ones i have are good for the AE92 master sizing.

    Ebay, where else.
Barry Manon in NZ is doing good work. MRP He will actually listen to what you want and go from there.
Work email has a quote for Corolla suspension.

    OK.
Been a while and the car developed a serious overheating issue.
On removing the head, it was found that one of the water galleries was trying to make its way out the side of the block. So much so that it was by-passing the hole in the gasket and making its own.
Also noted that there was a shed load of corrosion. Was blocking cooling points also.
    New block needed.
Looked at reco engine, but $2700 was more than the car.
Found a mint SX on Gumtree. Had been hit up the arse and the roof had been cut off, but everything from the seats forward was in excellent condition.
    Bought for $600.
So, transplant will now take place.
Looking to do the whole thing in one move. Keep the wiring loom attached to the engine and just disconnect the bits keeping it in.

    Block with a problem.

Have also noted that captain finger tight used oversized hoses for the cooling system and bodged them up with red gasket sealant.
In one case, it had restricted flow down to about 1/4.

    Spac' s south australian cousin?

Based on how few sensors these things have, I'd just disconnect the wiring at the engine when doing the engine swap, rather than transferring over the wiring from the 'front cut'.

Much easier pulling the loom out off the ecu. Getting the stuff out from under the injector rail is annoying.

pulled the connectors off the ECU and unbolted everything in the original car.
I note that the wiring loom goes back under both guards. I assume this goes into the doors or somewhere like that. I hope there are connectors under there somewhere.
Got donor car and seller had a custom dash with white TRD guages installed. Will look nice in in the car.
    More build photo's to come

Looked a bit closer and can pull wiring out of the fuse box and won't have to go near any of the wiring under the guards.

Looking to drop whole front subframe and wheel one out and the other in.

Winnrah.... Will see how we go.

    Current engine transplant progress.

Just need to drop sub frame and undo the 2 side engine pounts.

Will then take power steering out of donor car and put inot competition vehicle.

Then install engine and hopefully some magic happens.

Engine gearbox etc dropped from donor car last night.
Hoping to transfer it into the good car tonight.
Have to move the power steering across also and clean some bits up.

Then off to the scrap metal yard to get rid of the donor shell.

    All bits transferred.
    New radiator and cap $186.

Attempted turnover and nothing. Look around engine bay to find 2 wires not attached to coil.
Plugged them in and it turned over second crank. Ran very smoothly.

Just need to put lights etc on and away we go to our next event.

Must get those semi's fitted to some nice rims.

Gumtree gave up some 15x6 mags for $200. half chrome half undercoat due to their cheapness.
Need to get some new nuts for it as it uses those hex head style.

Fitted one old style bonnet pin last night. Other side to go in.

New white faced dial dash to go in which came with the wrecked donor car.

Now needs a wheel alignment and the semis fitted to the mags just picked up. Also need to put on some old style door plates to cover the bog which is showing through where I ripped off the body molding.

Have entered this weekends Oz gymkhana with the nopics. Will see how we go.

New nuts purchased at $2 each.
Bonnet pin in and working well.
    Donor car disposed of
Wheel alignment and strip and fit done.
A new Velo seat installed. Nopics wanted a better seat, so had to weld up some seat rails to the factory runners. All looks good
A paint tidy up and ready to go.

Scrutineering passed and we were set at car 6 and 23.
No pics was a bit apprehensive at first, but came back with a big smile after each run.
I nearly lost the rear end on the second corner. Cold tyres, but reigned it in. It seriously needs better brakes and a hydraulic handbrake to get it around some of those corners. Will have to see Mr Racing Ready.

I think I finished 10th outright. Not bad against some grunter evo's and wrx's as well as the drift pig squad.
Hand brake would have made for better times on some of the tests.

Some pics from the weekend. The Evo next to us blew a diff on the last run. Oh well.

And blue HQ tray top in picture 2 struggled for grip all day.
