Or buy an 80 series NA deisel, put 100 series TD motor and 5 speed auto in it. I get 11.3L/100km highway, bit under 13 round town, and 14.5 fully loaded and towing (about 4700kg all up) sitting on 110km/h. This, with 35" tyres, 4"lift, and every extra under the sun

Would end up the same price or maybe cheaper doing a duramax conversion to a petrol 80 id imagine, with many many more awesomes than a 1hd

1HDFTE it is, and 5 speed auto. The Duramax has been done in a couple of GU Patrols, and 1 fella in Perth currently fitting one to an 80 series. For a Duramax in a Patrol, you are looking at $40,000, the 1HDFTE set me back $20,000...........

yeah thats with someone else fitting it, and charging chev diesel tax.

both the motors are actually a similar price to buy outright. the chev you'd allow a few grand more for importing and taxes. and add a little bit also for adapter kits etc. both require wiring etc.

Yeah thats right. If your handy with a welder/fabricating, then the cost of the Duramax would be reduced dramatically. Some of the main reasons for the FTE conversion are Aus wide parts availability, bolts in, hoses plug in, etc. This is what i wanted over outright power/torque. I'd hate to try and find parts for the Duramax/Allison combo out in the scrub, but they will (like everything) become easier/cheaper to get hold of. I use my car for extensive remote travel, which is actually rare for an extensively modified 4wd. Most sit in the driveway, collecting dust unfortunately

10k for 80 series + 20k for engine/box/install == buy the 100 series Diesel in the first place or am I missing something?

The cheapest auto one i could find doing a quick search is $32K on carsales. Its a 2003, with 430,000km on it

Finding a HDJ100 for $30k thats not massive km, no service history, bent, no accessories, etc. is a bit like hens teeth in a pile of rocking horse shit.

Yes, IFS is full of aids!

I've seen a few for 12k but all are going to be money pits.
I think I am going to just go with a hilux as an easy option. I need a ute more than a wagon so its prolly for the best. No hardcore 4x4 work for me so give no fark for ifs or not.
