Just got back to work today after being away for the last 12 days for testing, PR work, and Rally Calder.
Rally Calder went well for us as we won 2wd on all three days plus maximum bonus points for the "power stages" and another bonus point for the most number of stage wins. Here's a few random pics from Rally Calder

Car looks fantastic! Great results mate.
Was still sporting a boner from page one of this thread.
Well done guys. Honda. Power of Dreams!

How quick are the times compared to Grp N?

It depends upon who is driving the Group N car!!
We haven't really got a good idea, but we should see in three weeks time when we do our first proper forest rally in WA. There aren't many Group N cars running now as most have moved to ARCar class and pulled out their turbo restrictors. The Civic was about 1 - 1.5 sec/km slower than an ARCar last year, and the Jazz feels faster.
Rally Calder wasn't a good bench mark either. There was only one crest and one sweeping corner that you couldn't see through. All of the other corners were either on the racetrack or in the gravel carpark out the back, and most of them were square junctions. We found that a lot of 4wd crews that we would normally beat comfortably were right on us or in front of us. This is probably a combination of lots of tight junctions where we couldn't carry any corner speed and the wet muddy surface. That sort of stuff really makes the 4wd cars shine, and our FWD doesn't really have an advantage over a RWD there. I think also that having good pacenotes and committing to them wasn't an advantage as yu could pretty much see where you had to go and there were few places where you could hurt your car if you over-cooked it (the Aston was an exception!). When we ran the all tarmac stages we were in the top 3-4 cars outright across the whole field.
I'd expect that we will still get beaten by the front running 4wd boys (Wilde, Box, Boaden etc) but we should be as fast (maybe faster?) than the rest.

Cheers mate. Obviously drivers and $$$ are big differences in terms of speed, but for a spectator like myself, I just wanted an idea of the comparison.

Righto. On your average rally if you had equal drivers in a Group N and the Jazz you should find that the Group N car would win. If the stages are flowing shire roads without lots of junctions, then the Jazz could knock off the Group N car.
If it was a proper tarmac rally I think that the Jazz would beat a Group N car. Think of the old F2 class in WRC's from years long past. They were faster than the WRCars. The G2 class is not dissimilar to F2.
We punch above our weight because Eli is a bloody good steerer and we commit to the pace notes.

We had the second round of the ARC last weekend in Busselton, south of Perth. It was the first forest rally of the season and we were super happy with how the Jazz performed. It's much easier than the Civic to drive quickly due to the shorter wheel base, wider track and longer suspension travel. We had a pretty clean run and a bit of luck too, and ended up winning the 2WD Championship for the second rally on the trot. Here's a few random photos from the event.
And here's a complete stage of onboard video.

Having sat in Glens seat for a lap in this thing, I can concur that this thing is a huge amount of fun! I actually thought it was very tail happy opener off oversteer which contributed to it being a lot of fun. Could not believe how well it stopped and handled! Very quick car!

Here's a promo video that Honda put together from the first two rounds of this year (Calder Park and WA). Please ignore cheesy shots of the crews turning towards the camera.

Caught up with Glen today at the Launch of the National Capital ARC round for 2013, and the car was sitting out the front. .... You can tell this car has been built from the ground up to be a serious car. ... even managed to fit my ass into the seat!
