1hz + turbo yes or no?

would like to add power to my naturally aspirated 1hz

now there are mixed reports about adding an aftermarket turbo kit

    -weak rods
    -weak head
    ..etc

    opinions?

Don't worry about it, just fit a DTS or denco kit and enjoy being able to go up hills. It'll be fine.

What JZK25 said, there must be hundreds, if not thousands of 1HZs in Australia with turbos on them.

Had a DTS kit on mine, with boost compensator, front mount and 15psi. Never had an issue. Keep EGT's under 550deg MAX, will last forever.

Yep, DTS kit + DTS or Cross Country 4x4 TMI and enjoy 150+kW of diesel power. Just do all the usual health checks first. Compression test, full service and tune then boost away.

id say the figure would be closer to 100's of thousands.

and what al said. get a factory kit and profit. they only bend rods with big boost. if your worried i reckon 1hdfte rods would fit it and be not overly expensive from toyota

Rods wont be nice price from Mr Toyota-you would need new pistons, as the pin sizing is different from 1HZ to 1HDT/FTE.Cheap insurance to chuck new conrod bearings in before you turbo-job can be done with motor in vehicle no worries.

Neighbour had one with Denco kit and LPG added. He's an old bloke but he said it'd tow fully loaded with a fully loaded caravan no dramas and still do 150 up the hills :P

New idea; if your engine needs a birthday-mob in Queensland do a rebuild kit for 1HZ, (gaskets, rings, brgs, pistons etc.),but also includes Turbo conrods, and the relevant pistons, for (top of my head ) dollars of about 2 g.Engine Australia dot com,not sure if they do general public sales, but have agents countrywide.(no I dont work for them, have used them a fair bit; very switched on about their line of work.)
