So, tonight, I went out and did a little exercise/comparison to see what they were like.
The images below show the various combinations.

Now this is not a be all and end all comparison, I have tried to sit them as close as possible to the same height as the XGT's that are mounted on my bull bar.
The XGT's sit roughly 900mm off the ground (centre of light) so the D2's and PIAA's were sat atop a spare camera tripod and pointed the same direction, aiming for the same centre line as best I could manage..

I included the PIAA's only for the fact I had them sitting around as they are (eventually) to be fitted to my daily driver..

Anyway - check the photos for yourself.
For the camera nerds out there - the specs for all the images are the same
    Canon 7D DSLR
    Canon 17-40mm F4 @29mm
    Shutter - 5 sec
    Aperture - f6.3
    ISO - 100
    Auto White Balance
    No Exposure bias
    Pattern metering..

Low beam and High Beam are BOTH lights.
Other examples are just one light unless stated otherwise.

This is not a "X brand lights are crap" bashing thread, I am happy with my purchase and I think they will fill my requirements perfectly....

Hope this helps anyone who was looking at them and wondering what they were like...

I think the D2's would benefit a lot from being up a bit higher, Hmm, maybe sit them on the roof rack ???

    Bodgy...
These are $350 with the 10% discount as shown above... ($390 retail)...
    KISS stuff ??????

Yeah, they are definitely not a long distance driving light in as much as the XGT's are not a flood light
The photos don't really do any of the lights full justice - I did exposures at 10 sec also and they showed heaps more lit up at the end, but the main centres were blown out.

To give a comparison, the bushes at the end ( about 200-250m away) were all visible with the D2's to the naked eye, but nowhere near as bright as with the XGT's (Naturally)

    Bodgy,
I do have some signed albums (the 4 solo albums when Peter Criss was with them) but never mentioned they were for sale. I'll wait for them all to be dead - maybe then they would be worth something

Would the Dually's be too bright for Reverse lights?

They would certainly annoy anyone looking at them, that's for sure.
I think that for reverse lights - you would be better with either the Dually Flood pattern (4 LED, 1300 lumen) or if you wanted the extra light - The "Diffusion" pattern in the D2 Dually (6 LED, 2600 lumen)
    see them here ---> http://snakeracing.com.au/dually-LED-lights.html

Otherwise, if you want something more subtle, I have fitted 5050LED Strips just under my reverse lights

Here is the post I put up on a 4WD forum i am on.
Note, these ones shown in the night photos are the smaller 3528 LEDs, I now have the 5050's fitted - HEAPS brighter. (the number refers to the LED / SMD size - ie, 3.5mm x 2.8mm or 5mm x 5mm)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Ok, here goes..

The LED strip lights I have on at the moment are the test ones only. I am waiting on the 5050 LEDs to arrive - the ones fitted at the moment are 3528 LEDs. - see the comparison pictures below to see the difference in size..

Note, - all night images taken with the exact same camera settings to give an accurate representation

1st image is rear shot with the reverse lights off.

2nd image with reverse lights on

Comparison of size between the 3528's and 5050's ( basically - 3.5mm x 2.8mm vs 5mm x5mm) once the 5050's arrive i will fit them as they are much brighter - at the moment I only have one 5050 as a lead light that I plug into the rear power outlet.

Ambient light, no vehicle lights on at all

    Tail Lights on only

    Brake lights on only

    Reverse lights on only.

Some of the good things about this set up I think are...
    Low cost - Under $20
    Easy to install -
    No drilling
    Easy to remove if required
Lights wrap around the side so illuminate beside the car too
    low current draw
    Very subtle / unobtrusive

    turbo 510.
yeah, they are simple and effective. I use them for heaps of things now
under the awnings, lead light for working on the car, under the shelves in the garage that don't get much light - they are great

I got mine from ebay, I've bought a few of them from different sellers - the latest was called megaplace4U
    http://stores.ebay.com.au/megaplace4u

They range from $5.00 to $35.00 depending on the length etc..
The ones on my tail lights are 35cm, but they generally sell them in 30cm / 60cm / 90cm /1m / 5m lengths. - I order the 5M rolls and cut them as needed...

    eg... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Underwate...ht_4062wt_1396
If the link above doesn't work - just do an ebay search for
5050 LED Strip + White +Waterproof (avoid the warm white as they are quite 'yellow')

Only just finished bolting then up tonight.
went out tonight and took a few more photos - was a pretty bright night with a full moon, but got some good comparison images....

This is where I mounted the D2's

    The rest are self explanatory..

Ohh, and got a new image with the rear LED strips.....

The witches hat in the last image is the reflection you can see at the centre of the forward facing shots. - It is at least 200 metres from the camera in those shots.

The rigid industries 40" led bar is priced at $1330.

There's ones for less than half of that by another company who decided to make em also.

Dunno bout the quality difference but would be interesting to see if they hold up as good as the rigids

Dragging a thread from the dead but anyway.
Any updates on the performance of these lights? Specifically has anyone mounted a lightbar on their roof and does it work as a general driving light and does it cause glare off the bonnet? Got a trip coming up soon which will involve a bit of night highway driving so was thinking about an LED bar across the roof rails, can't really mount anything on the front of the car due to the plastic front structure/no metal support within 200-300mm of the bumper. Will be upgrading the headlights, with decent halogen globes. Apparently HID retro fits give theses things the shits, like a french car needs an excuse.

I have a few mates with them mounted on the roof. All 20" to 40" models.
One is a white car / bonnet and the reflection off the bonnet is really bad so he mounted them about 20cm further back and they don't reflect on the bonnet now.

another mate has his at the very front of his roof rack (Black Jeep Wrangler) and the reflection on the bonnet is fine / bearable -but off the windscreen is REALLY bad. He made a little flat panel that sits under and just in front and that keeps it off the windscreen, but it still falls on the bonnet.. - when the Jeep is washed / clean, the reflection is much worse (still bearable though) but when dirty, not an issue

Cheers. Glare was my biggest concern, since the windscreen extends so far back along the roof.

Serious??? For a single trip with some night driving you would go through all that drama?

Maybe just stick to driving during the day.

I've been putting off getting driving lights on this thing since I bought it, the upcoming trip has prodded me into action. I already do a fair bit of night driving in the thing, and we intend to move house in the next 12 months so I'll end up driving at night/early morning pretty much every day. I probably don't actually "need" to fit driving lights but I feel doing so would be beneficial. And while I would prefer to drive during the day, in this particular case it's not likely it would be possible due to other commitments.
