What a fucking obtuse move.
How do you stop half the media saying -So it's a Nissan engine. Well no. So it's a Nissan chassis- also no. Nissan gearbox? Nope. Nissan bodywork? Not really.
WTF.
So V8SC was formed by banning a Nissan in Group A days and now they are welcome back with open arms.
It will definately be Infiniti given the amount of people that have left certain euro manufacture HQ located in Australia lately
Interesting times..... V8s have been a little stagnant for a fair spell now....
I usually watch them simply because I've always enjoyed touring car racing, a little more variety (even if it's really only different skins on same same everything else) cant hurt.
I'm quite interested to see how much quicker the COTF versions will be around each circuit given the 100kg weight loss, beter (?) rear suspension and more centralised weight distribution...

COTF has a control transaxle, engine must be V8 with similar power (restricted if higher etc) or use a current V8 engine.
I would think it more likely that the Kelly Brothers would run 1 or 2 Nissan's and 2 Holden's be in the pest of both worlds
they have some parity rule to equalise engines under COTF..

What Nissan V8 makes around 650hp @ 7500 rpm under race conditions for 500 kays?
500ks, are they not thinking of going back to the mountain??
Ride -=- e36 m3 <> Mods -=- brake dust
Their GT500 engines make ~550hp restricted, and can run for fucking yonks without any issues (at 8000+rpm AFAIK). If they can mate it to the COFT drivetrain, and de-restrict it such that it matches the 650hpo mark, then there is your package. That is, if quad cam high tech motors will be allowed (not sure on how rules are worded atm).
Looks like the Kelly team will switch to Nissan. I think V8SC will cover the cost of developing the body panels, afterall I don't think each Holden and Ford team have to pay for theirs, apart from buying copies of the V8SC homolgated designs. Everything else are control items, except the engines.
It may be a Nissan engine because there's a clause that allows OHC engines with some sort of parity formula. Or it could be a chev with Nissan stamped on the rocker covers.
Holden, Ford and TEGA got together and convinced CAMS to scrap Group A in favour of the V8 formula because:
(a) Holden and Ford didn't want to or couldn't build a decent Group A homologation special and wanted their own sandpit to play in without any competition (the motorsport equivalent of the special olympics).
(b) The teams that were aligned with uncompetitive manufacturers supported (a).
It's ironic now that Holden and Ford need other manufacturers to be involved to ensure the longevity of V8SC, because their own marketshare has shrunk to a fraction of what it used to be. Luckily it's a silhouette formula with no relevance to real cars.
Anybody got links to the engine parity rules?

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Mondo, you'll find that Holden and Ford don't love the idea of another manufacturer, moreso V8SA has forced this upon the sport as a means to further widen their audience.
Yeah true. Holden and Ford need V8SC, but I don't think V8SC will be having any problems until the falcon/commodore are no longer being made, then series will be quite shit without other manufacturers. And in the meantime it could help V8SC earn more cash.
Ford and Holden have had a pretty good run over the years. In the early years they sponsored all the top tier teams, over the years they have reduced that to 1 or 2 of the top teams each. I'm not sure if they tip any money into V8SC directly but even if they do I'm sure the marketing return far outweighs the expense.

NISSAN RETURNS IN V8 ASSAULT
By Mark Fogarty, Editor-At-Large
Nissan Australia will return to racing next year with a full factory-backed entry in V8 Supercars with Kelly Racing.
To be announced in Melbourne tomorrow morning, the family-owned Kelly outfit will be rebranded Nissan Motorsport and field as many as four official entries.
The cars will run in primarily Nissan livery – normally red, white and blue – that incorporates other team sponsors.
Still to be decided is what Nissan model the Car Of The Future-spec V8 racers will emulate, with candidates ranging from the Maxima large car to the Japanese-market four-door Skyline to the mid-size Altima or Primera.
Enginewise, it’s understood Nissan Oz and Kelly Racing will develop a localised version of one of the company’s existing racing V8s, with input from the NISMO motor sport division in Japan.
The unexpectedly full-frontal factory deal ends the two-decade Ford/Holden duopoly in V8 racing.
Ironically, Nissan’s last involvement in Australian touring car racing was with the category-killing “Godzilla” Skyline GT-R, the early 1990s domination of which prompted the switch to the V8 Commodores and Falcons that have reigned since 1994.

The Holdens and Fords running around the V8 Supercars these days are so far removed from their road going namesakes that there is no reason why Nissan couldn't shape a GTR around the COTF chassis.

[edit] Super GT
Nismo GT-R for 2008 season of Super GT
Nismo, the motorsport arm of Nissan, entered the Nissan GT-R in the Super GT race series in the GT500 class for the 2008 season, replacing the Nissan 350Z.[77]
The GT500 version of the car has a completely different drivetrain compared to the production car. The race car is upgraded to a VK45DE 4.5-litre naturally aspirated[78] V8 instead of the twinturbo V6 VR38DETT. It uses a 6 speed sequential manual gearbox and a RWD layout from its predecessor, the 350Z race car.[79]
A prototype was spotted testing around the Suzuka Circuit as well as Fuji Speedway in Japan.[80][81] The car went on to win the opening race of the 2008 Super GT season at Suzuka scoring a one-two finish for Nissan.[82] The dominant performances in the opening race has led to all GT-Rs being applied a 50 kg weight penalty in addition to the race weight penalty under the Special Adjustment of Performance under the Super GT regulations.[83] In race two, the GT-R repeated their 1-2 result in Suzuka despite the race winning car of team Nismo carrying a 100 kg weight penalty making it only the 3rd team in JGTC/Super GT history to do so. The last time this feat was achieved was 10 years ago by Nismo Skyline GT-R racing under the same number 23.[84] Despite the weight handicap, it did in fact become the champion in this 2008 season through the Xanavi Nismo GT-R driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer, as well as winning 8 out of 9 races driven by 4 different teams using GT-Rs.
The GT500 version scored 4 victories in the 2009 Japanese SUPER GT Series GT 500 class. In 2010 the VH45DE 4.5 litre engine was replaced by a newly developed 3.4 litre engine (VRH34A).[85]
EDIT : Again on wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_Supercars#Future ... not sure if that rules out the GTR, or can it run as long as they just have a 4 door in production.... ie, maxima in production, so GTR okay to race.
