Basic stuff, workshop workbench

Got started on this today.

Frame is 40x40x2 and 25x50x2 Top is folded 1.6mm galv with 15mm CD ply underneath. One side is setup for sitting at hence the missing bar. Splashback is 150x50x2 galv

Works out to be around 1017mm high, 2400mm long and 750mm deep

Tacked togethor and ready to check for square before welding everything. Then it needs a few bits added like the bars that go underneath the ply to support it and some stuff for shelves and a drawer.

Heh, I put something sort of similar together in December to try to teach myself to weld.

I only used 4 uprights but used 40x40x3 and used a sheet of 6mm steel bolted to the top rather than the ply and gal.

Then I got lazy and only got around to getting a bit of chipboard for the bottom shelf last weekend so it should finally be together this weekend.

The welding is pretty ugly but I'm kind of pleased with myself for a first try, it's definitely structurally sound.

Got the main structure finished today, bench top riveted and glued down, loaded up the top with weight so it can set overnight. Will bolt the vice on in the morning and dynabolt it to the floor and its ready to use for now. Will finish the shelves and drawers after I use it to finish a few jobs.

Bench looks good, but now that it has a bunch of gear on the top it will never be usable again.

Mister black bolting it down so the bench won't move when you lean on stuff in the vice, will probably just put 2 dynabolts on opposite corners.

Garvice I see you are familar with the primary purpose of workbenches.

Thought so, I'm hoping my 100kg steel benchtop provides enough weight that I don't need to. We'll see how I go I guess.

Done for now, shelves and drawers to come at a later date, need to use it to make some money for now.
