Fuck I don't really get the hate in here.. I figured this would be a pretty cool thread with some similarities to the 13s for 1300 deal but I was wrong..

Isn't it a simple question? Is there any car that HAS done better then 1.46 for under $6500. Seems TOTALLY reasonable to me and quite interesting.

It's an impressive time for that car but if you're fishing for pats on the back, don't bait PF.

I agree with whatever Mark Webber just said.

Thread: "Do i have the cheapest road car that can do 1:56 at Phillip island??"

How cheap? You too can have a "cheap" car if you just write-off your other car and buy a bare shell to make the "cheap" car "from stuff you had lying around". Yep, totally reasonable...

Road Car? well it wasn't really done in "road car" spec - particularly not the claimed "drive it to work everyday rather than track hack". Apparently not putting stuff in, does not equal stripped out... I'd say the drive it to work everyday car would reasonably be expected to still have its heater, air con and power steer. You couldn't even register it like that, let alone drive it to work everyday.
and everyday drive to work cars have wings, splitters and giant canards? I don't see any like that on my commutes...

so the reasonable title of thread becomes "Do I have the ... ... car that can do 1:56 at Phillip island??"
    is that still so interesting?

It could have been a cool thread, until OP started attacking everybody that didn't agree with him

Not so much, been enjoying the occasional spot of fishing with amusing results though.

What's important is you get out there and have a go. Sounds like a decent time, you had fun for fuck all money and you'll probably get quicker. More than i can say. I can't stand the look of mx5's but each to their own.

This thread will start a new competition which i think is great.

Raced karts and fuck me that was more expensive.
Set my pb on a practice day with 3 cans of scotch under my belt. Sadly can't race with courage juice.

Yeh, what I was thinking. That plus most of the posters apparently have never raced at PI but still had plenty to say As he said, bloke had done a good time and was excited, that's pretty natural.

Phillip Island is probably not a very good yard stick for comparing different vehicles with different drivers. It is a very high speed track that rewards commitment. A driver/rider that is experienced at the Island is going to lap considerably faster than a trackday pilot/club racer that's never been there. I found it took me a while just to get acclimatised to the speed there. There aren't many places in Australia you can practice turning in at 200km/h+ so most people will find it hard to run quick times off the bat there. Also has some very tricky speed and elevation changes not to mention some of the fastest corners anywhere.

This is turn 3 which Casey Stoner says is the most intimidating corner anywhere in the world:

Even on my GSXR I get knee down at almost full noise in 5th (which gets my heart racing...) but to casually get a power slide brewing through there is all kinds of fucked up.

Then you have this little gem. Turn 1...

Very challenging on a still, sunny day. Problem is, it's Phillip Island so if it isn't raining it's windy.

edit: changed second video, this one is funnier as it has a 4 year old almost doing a "Max" at the end.

Do you know Geoff Frandsen ?

That Biaggi crash wash awesome. Looked liked the front brakes bit in too hard? Mechanical ? Then he got the speed wobbles. Which does look pretty funny and i laughed.

Haven't met Geoff. It seems that list is from the Vic state titles, I've only been in Victoria for 6 months or so (I'm still based in Adelaide). Of the guys on that list, I've met Chris Casella- he was in the pit garage next door at a ride day earlier this year. His team manager actually let my cousin borrow the footpeg from his road bike after he crashed his R6 in the first session. Good blokes. I also tried (unsuccesfully) to chase Mitch Carr on the AARK Australian Supersport Daytona 675 last time I was at the Island.

I wish those lap times were still current for 600 superstock! I'd be top 10 no problems!

It's a hard track to master and a bad one to crash on. F1/ Nascar / v8supercars at the island would be sick.

I don't know what other cars could do the same time cheaper, but I don't disbelieve Lightyear's prices, one of my mates has bought a couple of running, registered NA6's for two grand, so $500 for a shell could be do-able, I've paid $1100 for a NB 1.8 and box from an importer and $500 for NB brakes, that would leave $1400 from his prices for the diff/tailshaft etc. If you had the space to leave this shit for a while as you wait for bargains to turn up you could easily do it on the cheap.

My car wasn't cheap to build, it just looks like a cheap pos hahaha
