Don't know of any Alpinestars 2 piece that's RRP is even close to $1800 when buying online. They normally only make the lower end suits in 2 piece so they seem to top at about $1100. Most of them are about $500 on closeout at STG at the moment.... make sure you don't pay more for a second hand suit than you can get a new one for!

Grabbed them on Thur night. Jacket fits sweet but the pants are a bit big/bunch around the arse & lower back area. Think I did alright for $150?

It's pretty worn looking but still got some life in it. Worst damage is there's two big patches sewn on the arse but they look like they belong there. Should get a couple of meets out of them at least. Definately makes me look more hardcore than I am

Any special goo or shit I can use to clean them up a bit?

Not bad for $150. How badly is it bunched up? If they're too big and there is a lot of loose leather that can be a problem. Is it only bunched up when you're standing normally? Get into a race crouch and see if it sorts itself out. They'll be cut to be tight in a riding position, not uncommon for them to be a little baggy in the arse when you're standing upright.

I used this stuff to clean my suit the other day:

Worked pretty well, it came with my suit. You can buy them on ebay.

    Looks like a bargain!

Worked out my issues with the jacket, beer belly is not in proportion with my chest/neck size.. Need to trim that shit and buy a smaller size jacket

I'm loving the leather, haven't worn my textile jacket once since I got it. Didn't really get the textile vs leather debate before, now I do. Feels a shitload lot more protective.

Instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd try to add to this one a bit - By asking what you guys are using for boots. I've got a nice Shoei (XR 1100) skid lid, and a Leather Alpinestar jacket (GP Plus) which fit awesome, But nothing for the feet/ankles. Looked at some low cut shoe looking things and decided they'd be as useful as tits on a bull if you were to have an off, Don't know about having a full set of moon boot looking metal buckle fucken things either. Happy medium ?? Looked at so many I don't know what I want.

My last pair were Berik, but this pair are the waterproof Alpinestars SMX 5's.... And let me tell you. They are very fucking waterproof after the crap I rode through the other weekend

Not that you were to know, but being waterproof REALLY isn't a problem. Average yearly temp would be in the mid 30's and it only ever rains when we get a cyclone, 3 main areas of interest would be protection, comfort and airflow. Looked at some shit hot Alpinestars on a website posted earlier in the thread, look pretty tame. Will look at Beriks - any website/online store pointers ?

The Berik stuff is more tame than most Alpinestars stuff. What sort of riding do you do? In my opinion, on the road the most important protection in boots is for your Shins (Impact), ankles (Twist) and toes (Crush/Impact).

I have those boots, in that colour (although mine are perforated like the ones in the pic below). They are actually fucking awesome. I went into my local bike shop to try on a pair of Dainese boots to match my suit, tried them on and hated them. Tried on a few more before deciding on the Astars. They take a little longer to put on than the Dainese boots but they are super comfortable with really good ankle and foot protection. They also flow quite a bit of air which is good for hot ride days yet not too cold for the morning sessions of a Winter track day. They're not waterproof but if it's wet enough to get your socks wet through the vents on the boots, you're going to be soaked anyway.

They come in a a few different colours if you are after something that stands out a little more:

I'm not convinced about the quality of Alpinestars gear. I stacked once while wearing Alpinestars gloves (mid range - can't remember the model) and they ripped along a seam. No hand injuries but if I had been going a bit faster/slid further I wouldn't have any palm left. It was a low speed crash (60ish) and I think the gloves should have stayed together.

Crash 2 I was wearing Alpinestars SMX boots - broken tarsal and soft tissue damage in the ankle. Basically I was barrel rolling along the bitumen at high speed when my toe caught, stopping my foot while my body rotated around it. This one was not so clear cut, I can't say I wouldn't have sustained those injuries if I had been wearing other boots. I always thought those boots looked cheaply constructed though.

Fast forward 5 years and I bought some Alpinestars Tech 7 MX boots (I guess I am a slow learner). No crashes in these yet (touch wood) but I hate them. After heaps of use they still feel like they're not broken in, stiff as. I think i will try Sidi Crossfires next.

Spidi one piece suit and spidi gloves - top notch.

I've heard a few bad reports on Astars gloves but then some people really like them and Stoner etc wear them so you'd think they'd have to be decent (although theirs are hand made from kangaroo leather). Personally I really like Held gloves.

Boots are Alpinestars bread and butter though and I've got nothing but good things to say about the Supertech-R's. The SMX boots are entry level (almost half the price of the tech-R's) but that said, you would still expect decent protection. Sounds like you had a nasty get off though, hard to say you wouldn't have got the same result with different boots on. High speed barrell rolls never end well.

Sidi make great boots also, I had a pair before the Astars. Would have got another set but I really liked the exo-skeleton ankle protection thing in the Astars plus they are super comfortable on. Probably slightly bulkier than the Sidi's but I prefer them.

do you guys do the daily commute?

cliffs: the DriRider jacket I had in teh accident is toast, and the leather pants I almost bought didn't fit, so I need basically everything bar gloves and a helmet.

Years ago I had a Mars leather jacket and I used to roast in it when I got stuck in traffic.

Thoughts? Oh and Triumph is having a deal at the moment, their version of a DriRider jacket and pants (textile for both) for $245...
