Im now chasing down a reb saab 9000 turbo that has blown diff. Have already been told its free, and may even start LOL. If it really does exist count me in. I imagine a FWD with a CIG locker is safe.

Id say an engine conversionto a fwd is just as doable than a engine conversion to a rwd. Fwd stuff is soooooo common at wrecking yards these days and worth nothing, and theres a suprising amount of interchangability between platforms
fer instance, 3/5S or 1mz into an early corolla wouldnt be overly hard.. Or look at iboosts mirage for inspiration. Ftos are common at wreckers now.
V6 corolla/mirage + nos = winner.
Went a big drive today to pick up missus's new wagon. Saw potential cars everywhere.
One particular steed was a 3.5-litre Magna Verada in Temora. It was beaten to shit and had primer/touch-up patches all over it and looked very shit. Asking price on window was $1500, but they're tripping. Looks to have been sitting there for a loooong time. I reckon $500 will take it home very easily.
Also saw a 80s?? Ford Laser but no price, but it's located 500m away so I can enquire about that anytime.
Also saw what appeared to be an AE82 Corolla Seca for $500 about 15km from home. Might go back and check that one out.
Plus there's still the Excel parked across the back lane from me.
Fuckin' cars everywhere
I kind of did, must admit the old brain has been pondering this idea for most of the day
2JZ KE20 Corolla 7.97 @ 178

I think the RWD challenge was too easy in some respects. Big engines, chop the weight out and you're half way there then add boost/nitrous and simmer. Any engine worth putting in a big RWD car is bucks, except the Barra motor which has it's own issues with transplants.
Small FWD's have import engines to chose from. Maybe no-one will take up the conversion challenge (my main idea involves a conversion) but with the availability of big block magna's and stuff I think we'll see people take the easier route.
Still I'm happy to see any challengers make the trip down the quarter.

I can't decide but thinking would like to stay light 4 cyl. Haha I even pondered a renault fuego with it's wacky north south engine front wheel drive setup

The more I look at Magna's the more promising they seem, but I kind of want to do the light car thing
Magna + sawzall = "light car thing"

no, i havent done a FWD conversion yet. Tils isnt far off getting his done from V1.0, he only didnt finish due to time constraints iirc. but the beauty of this competition is hacking the car is encouraged, so space constraints arent reallllllly a massive problem, and in the case of the toyota i mentioned above (and maybe the mitsu too), they bolt up to the original gearboxes, or at least where the originals did, so alignment is half sorted.
im not saying its easy.. obviously going this route would be way harder than finding something decent to start off with. but isnt PF all about stuffing overly large engines into something that wasnt designed for them??
i think people going the engine conversion route should get a year to finish, just to make things more interesting.

'75 international acco fire truck!!
'70 VG sedan - current project, now 13's for $1300 project

there's heaps of shit available. first is a 1st gen hyundai. put galant/sonata 4g63 in and strap any old turbo with a vr4 galant manifold( warning gbox breaks).
second is a 121 bubble/festiva/121 metro with any of the ford/mazda twin cam 2 litres. bolt on turbo with ebay spec T3 miata turbo manifold from the states for $95U.S. (extra warning gboxs breaks lots)
3rd is old mx6/ford probe/626/telstar manual 2.5 v6's/ will do low 15's in standard trim. seen an mx-6 push 160 somethin kw's with a 2nd hand r34 turbo and stupid manifold setup.
fourth would be an old 3.5 manual magna. thats the hardest part. then try to squeeze some un-natural aspiration somehow. have seen these do 14.6 with pod filter and catback at willowbank.
then you have old toyota starlets. they have super strong gboxes. they're light and you have some options from factory turbo models overseas. surely you could put an old nissan turbo on one of these with some bigger injectors?
I have a '93 Camry with a fucked engine that I would be willing to donate to the cause.
It was a slow piece of shit 4 banger so probably not suitable, but it is an auto.
Car is located at my old mans place in Cootamundra NSW though

this would be a good start surely?
the hardest and most expensive part to doing an engine conversion would have to be wiring imho
