So I found myself a trashy little euro bitch.....

So a few weeks ago, in a dark little corner of a local industrial estate, I find old mates put his bike out the front of his business with a ' 4 Sale ' sign on it. Always had a bit of a thing for the KTM RC8 but never seen one in person, So of course I have to stop and have a look. And of course it looks better in person than any picture.

So after a few weeks of thinking about it, I've figured death is a worst case scenario, Took it for a test ride and loved it.

    2010 KTM RC8
    Black over Orange
    3600 km's
    Stock as a rock
Not a mark on it, it really is immaculate.
All service/ownership history/Service Key blah blah blah

Price - Cheap Cheap - Of all the bikes I could find for sale (not just 2010 models - any RC8) online it had the least K's and was Cheaper than all but 1 other.

Can't wait to pick it up

Have to give a shout out to SketchyMcPhil for a bit of advice and insight

What's the go with these. How do they compare to say an R1, which I also can't afford or ride very well?

So I went and picked it up tonight and went for a small spin, Nothing silly as I'm feeling like a rusty shit cunt. One thing I noticed is I feel comfortable 'with' the bike, as opposed to 'on' the bike, Not something I've found with a few of the different ones I've ridden. Riding position for me is pretty natural which is surprising being a tall prick on a sports bike - this was also my greatest concern when looking at them initially. Something about it that I already love is the mid range pick up that just surges with the revs. Kind of expected a good mid range that dropped off in the top end.

Guyoz - It's on the cards mate, I've looked at every video on youtube and the sound would put a horn on a jellyfish. Downside is cost, Looks like a $3k venture so may have to wait a lil while. The sound it makes stock isn't at all bad mind you.

Instigator - I'd have to leave it up to someone else to comment, I have a limited exposure to riding big bikes, and the ones I have ridden are considered antiques now. It was more the package that drew me towards the KTM and away from the more common choices - I've always been a little different though.

When Phil bought one I figured they were just the homosexuals bike of choice but hopefully you can add some balance.

Nice dude - enjoy and keep it right way up! Scan eBay for a pipe even just a slip on as surely you could pick one up for much less than $3k!

edit - titanium slip on starting from $1200 - FAAARRKKK!!!!!

Haha I'd do nothing for dispelling the homo thing with the way I've putted around on it thus far. Exhaust is a bit of a shit deal but it wasnt a deal breaker - just a bit more overtime.

Should be home at a reasonable hour tonight, will click off a few shots then down to Perth for easter and pick up some new gear !

Cool bikes, I've always wanted to ride one. Spent a lot of time talking to a guy who had an immaculately prepared RC8R race bike at the last ride day at Phillip Island. Turned out he was one of Glen Allerton's major sponsors and the bike was actually raced by Glen in ASBK a year or two previously before they switched over to the BMW which Glen won ASBK on last year. He had it painted up in his companies colours- Zoo Recruitment I think it was. Looked fucking awesome and was pretty heavily modified too.

The Akra slip on is $1370 for single muffler or $1620 for dual mufflers... Full system is $1920 for single muffler or $2610 for dual. What a bargain!

Fuck that, get the FMF full system instead. $1495 in stainless or $1935 in titanium.

Personally I'd go with stainless then get a lithium battery. Will cost less and you'll save a heap more weight than the titanium system.

Bit of a running update - Been down in the big smoke for a few days, bought a new skid lid, Nice leather Alpinestar jacket and a couple of accessories for the bike.

Got back yesterday morning so saddled up and went for blat, 200k round trip and the first decent stint I've done. Fucking love it. It's been obvious since day one the bike is a lot more capable than I am, But I'm creeping up on it and it just keeps rewarding me with confidence. I know there are quicker bikes out there, but it has a great turn of speed from just about any rev range. I haven't been near the limits of it's handling but it was natural to just tip it in and power on - it just grips and goes.

Something else worth another mention is the riding position, which concerned me while looking at buying. I'm a bees dick under 6'4 and thought it was going to be impossible to find a decent riding position - wrong. I've been on a couple of Kwakas' and a 'Zuki in recent times and they didn't feel comfortable at all, Maybe it's the adjustment available in the controls and rear sets, ride height etc but it's working for me.

Rorz, The slip on is a rort because I'm sure it only works with the Akra header pipes, So you end up having to buy can + pipes = $3k

In summary - Fucking awesome, If you're thinking about it get out and have a ride, But make sure you have the finances sorted before you do.!!

P.S If you're an attention whore this is THE bike for you.

Most slip ons come with a 'mid' pipe that connects them to the factory cat or headers. You shouldn't have to buy the full system to fit the slip on.

Crazy the price Akra charge for the full system when you consider how compact and simple the headers are... Apex system is far better value although still pricey.

5 Day holiday isn't quite working how I expected, been turned into more of a 3.5 day holiday so pics have been delayed. I'll post a shit one to buy some time to get some decent ones.

Derek, You're a homo. If I die on this I won't need anymore than 1 pallbearer to walk me out. When are you visiting your uncle in Perth ?? I'll ride it down and we can head south for a bit. No skids cunt. One wheel action is not far away though.

Will look more into this slip on jobbie, All the adds I've read say ' only compatible with head pipe part number xxxxxbendoverandtakethepineapple11ty ' There's a full Ti system on ebay for $2400 that I was about to pull the trigger on, but then thought nah fuck that. Found some imported thing for around the $1800 mark but reputed to be around the 106-108 dB mark - no baffles available - maybe I'm soft but that fucking loud, and it looks fucked. Will look at this Apex mob.

Heres a shit pic I snapped back at the yard after work, Nothing flash about it

So in an attempt to tip the homosexuality scales towards the negative, I have started talks that should procure me a full Akra Ti pipes/can for about the cost of the FMF Kit from Rorz's SBTG link. It will still feel like anal rape by an elephant, just without the malice.

I'm not sure you can ever feel you've had a win when paying $1500 for a bike exhaust but if you can get that Akrapovic titanium full system for $1500... you pretty much have to.
