nah, super slut gives you what 4 mm extra diameter, a bit of hassle and still only twin piston sliding caliper. Smaller brakes (width, diameter, and pad size)on the gemini dealt with more weight, more applications /km and longer sessions than this will ever see.

with a set of proper pads and some ducts these will be more than fine. If can be bothered when I get the rear suspension apart for rebushing I might fit some AE101 (266 m non vented rears + hub, and caliper etc), if i can get them for almost nothing.

if i want to get stupid with front brakes I'll just drop 1000 bucks on a set of wilwoods, adapter and discs from MRP.

Or you could build the same kit for 500 if you ordered the bits yourself. The calipers are 250, discs 100ea and laser cutting the dog bones about 40-50 when I had Gavs done

I have the CAD file. More than happy to make it available to friends etc... not whoring it out to the wider community because MRP seems to be a niceish guy.

time to rewrite yesterday AM's post.

sumps don't interchange so I welded an appropriate nut to a piece of plate, and then welded that to the 20 V sump to make the oil cooler return.Slightly bodgy, but looks factory from the outside.

swapped oil pressure switch and water temp senders from the 16 V block.

was hoping to use at least the 20V rear engine mount, but tis all wrong (and has been butchered anyway) so new ae82 mounts will be ordered.

waiting on the camry brake calipers to show up then I'll double check the pad type and place an order for new rotors and pads with www.brakesdirect.com.au as part of their EOFY sale.

spend about 2 hours digging through the wiring loom removing surplus stuff- like all the unecessary AE101 A/C controlling stuff -(which doesn't go with the 16V compressor I have fitted)

so have 258 mm discs on the way from greg and co and brakesdirect. have discovered, and kicking myself though should have thought of it before, that the SV21 calipers have a unique pad shape, and thus no cunt makes decent pads for them...

the calipers need rebuilding- piston seals are stuffed- fortunately 20 bucks is not worth worrying about.

so may be back to the drawing board.

later model camry calipers might bolt up to the same discs maybe? or you could also cut your own pads

thanks for the bj info btw

    OK, updateage...

RDA discs arrived, but RDA sent me the wrong discs- ~ 300 x 30 mm skyline discs... god knows how... so have emailed Nathan@ brakesdirect to get that sorted this morning... UPDATE: new discs on the way..

the 'right' - AE93 calipers are on their way from radelaide in the next day or so.. massively expensive.. NOT...

Got the 20valve in the engine bay yesterday- bit of a trial- engine cranes don't work well on gravel- so engine was dragged into place under the car, and then lifted into place.

eventually the car did fall of the axle stands... but that was because i was using the engine crane to pull the engine uphill to line up engine mounts, and up and lifted the car sideways... OOPs...

worked out well though cos it could thern bolt up the front of the xmember much more easily

I'm the fucking king of safety

Ben- nah, didn't bother- had a good look at it and it'd been recently replaced, but if it goes I'll be on the phone

shifter cables, heater hoses and bottom rad hoses are in place. Just gotta make a joiner for the top rad hose,

Ae93 calipers arrived during the week along with a set of A1RMs, so brakes can go back on this weekend. RDA fixed there snafu and I have the slotted discs as well.

Have dummied up the intake, and then los the piece of paper I scribbled stuff on (grrr) so redoing that but I only need 1 more silicone joiner, a bit of work with a heat gun, and to make a bracket to support the MAF and it'll all work fine and look kinda factory.

so to update on $$ spent so far:

    front engine mount- $67
    silicon hose joiner -12.30
    wrong brake calipers - 20
right brake calipers -80 & spare discs
    RDA discs - 150
    A1RM - 120
    ball joints- 50 bucks
    tie rods- 40 bucks
ECU plug with pigtails - 69
    bushes etc 300
Add in the purchase price for the car at 100 bucks, and silvertop at 420 bucks
    Oil (free- supershit R retards)
    oil filter 8
    copper washers - 5 bucks.

    that's about 1400 bucks

and all that really remains is wiring(free if I manage to make it work myself) 2 new driveshafts, and the exhaust mods- about 18 inches of pipe, 2 flanges, and a O2 sensor bung required.

I'll take it to wakefield see how rubbish it is( very) , then worry about suspension upgrades

    hrmm... c56 mmmm..

yeah cheap and cheerful. Just spent another 35 bucks on silicone hose joiners for the intake.

will swap the accel cable over on the weekend too.

brakes on, calipers cleaned up and slides regreased, slightly torn dust boots replaced. accel cable didn't need changing. Sway bar mount bushes fitted.

Wiring a bit more sorted, seems to be making sense. Annoyingly cut one of the wires to the Circuit open relay a bit close to the plug no matter I have two...

The dude who built the cage in the wooshodore dropped in for 5 minutes, and had a chat- many lols about the wiring... I was a dunce and forgot to ask him if he'll let me have a drive of bike engined the buggy he is about to finish building...

wiring wiring wiring... so much fun, so little time..

taking it really slowly and methodically and working from phil bradshaws wiring pinouts and tables for the most part Just gotta sort the starter-ecu link, the latching side of the fuel open circuit relay, & some of the sensor earth arrangements and make sure they are correct.

Working on the driveshaft situation as well-you can't just hybrid the silvertop drivers side inner driveshaft with a passenger side twin cam d/s cos the twin cam one is too short to make up the distance by about 3-4 cm. So aside from finding a complete D/S silvertop driveshaft, you've gotta find a driveshaft outer that is slightly longer. 96-00 RAV4 appears to be the go based on some online research.

wiring is all but done- at least the dummy up to make sure it works, then it'll need taping and loom tubing.

Have starter action, have power to injectors and coil, and ignitor, have power to the ECU, fuel open circuit relay clicks as it should etc. just need to sort out a couple of things so it'll fire, and make sure the fuel pump works & charge the battery.

gotta swap the rear engine mt bracket to the 'right' one now I have new mounts, get some new driveshafts, then fill the gearbag and radiator. Need a new VVT solenoid too since the plug is non existant. then off for the 2 foot of missing exhaust between the Jasma's and the existing system, and an O2 sensor bung.

Closer, much closer... nice to at least turn it over on the starter and hear the engine pushing out some air.

Hey man been lurking and keeping an eye on this and I like how it's coming along.
Are you a northsider or southsider?

I've also got a twin cam ae82 that I want to start prepping maybe for a some cheap track fun. It would be a blast to see 2 of these little beasts getting around a circuit. Obviously at this point I think it's safe to say you'd leave me in the dust.

    Great work on the beast!

dave- cheers mate- northsider, as if anyone would ever admit to living southside

It's been a LONG while since I've driven anything in anger, let alone a FWD car, so I'm looking forward to getting this out anywhere I can, and getting it finished so I can go back to working on the wooshodore build. I haven't helped myself by (finally) ordering new springs and stuff for my D40 navara today, so that's a day fitting them up that I'm not working on either fun car!

VVT solenoids seem to be hard to come by for these, so I'm going to see if I can't braze or otherwise attach terminals directly to the solenoid body.

Plan then is to do a trackday at wakefield as is, then fit some MRP coilovers ,and see how fast we can go... hopefully 1:15-6s shoud be doable on semis.

I just ran two connectors with heat shrink jammed over them shoved into the solenoid (ECU connector connectors IIRC), they stayed in there fine.

the relevant electical bit of the solenoid has broken off- nothing to connect anything to, and playing with 12 v and the solenoid body did me no good have a new solenoid on the way from jap land for 120 bucks...

The wiring is giving me the shits ATM. At the appropriate ignition switch position have power to coil, ignitor & injectors, as well as ISCV ,and AFM, have power to fuel pump. have cranking at the cranking position. .. The EFI main clicks appropriately as does the FOC relay, and the AFM flap being held open keeps the FOC latched as it should.

for some reason I don't have spark or fuel. Have power to the ECU, and last I checked power to the Starter pin on the ECU when the starter is activated.

Gotta be an earth thing I reckon, just gotta find the cunting fucking cunt.
