but first outing, new car, shakedown etc etc so can only get better.

Hope you hot vids of 20v on limiter
Yeah the time is not special at all. Review of Racechrono data suggests its down on power a lot - Vmax is 132 Km/hr.... and i was short shifting well before the limiter, cos it was really mid rangey so i suspect cam timing is slightly out. Will have to check it properly sometime.

Have two session on incar - didn't get the first two cos gopros are shit...

Yeah there is something wrong there; my mr2 with the same engine/gearbox was easily over 160...

FZs were good heaps of grip, progressive ended up at 30 psi hot.

My n/a micra was 110km/h at the kink and the best time I managed was 1:20.

Did you try running the FZs on the left side of the car? I've often wondered if that would be better than running them on the front.

    yeah but you can drive

Optimal lap time from racechrono was 1.21.99 in the 2st session, and the best of all sectors arcross the day was 1:21. 81.. . The times fell away in the 1st and 3rd sectors the more laps I did..... likely to be just my shit driving holding it back!

I was fighting oversteer in all the corners(rock hard road tyres on the back) and should have at least backed off the rear sway bar, but I was too busy talking to Bede (yes he took his newFD out- it's tops.. ), Gaz, Hoonboy, Spac & Anna, Simongallant& Jen, AJ, and the TCC/HDCC stalwarts between sessions, twas like an old school rally reunion in some respects- and certainly made the day more fun.

only 4 sessions was a bit disappointing- when Spac and I ran in 2010 we got 6....

Had a decent off in the 1st session on the exit of turn 3- heading up the hill, caught a bit too much kerb, and backed off slightly on cold tyres and ended up on the hillclimb track. Had a spin at the fish hook in the out lap in session 3 cos I was a bit lazy and trail braked too much..

Upside- I had fun, the car was 100 % reliable- didn't use oil, didn't get hot, brakes worked really nicely, no electrical gremlins. Happy with that, happy that I know that there is a shit tonne of time to be made up over the next little while.

    So where too next..

Lack of power sorted out- I suspect that the cam timing is slightly out due to my fucking around changing cam seals, so will have to work out how to get that correct with minimum effecot. Pre cam seal change I would shift into 3rd at just under the limiter at 90 ish km /hr- yesterday I was well into 3rd at 90, and into 4th at 110 cos it just wouldn't pull at the top end.

fixed back seat & harness bar, and harness- Watching the incar back last night reinforced that I'm hanging onto the wheel to hold myself in place too much.
Coilovers from MRP - gotta get some camber into the thing and some damping would be nice- you can hear the shocks leaking when you bounce it...
    FZs for the rear

Damo - I took my IR temp thingo and even after idling back to the pits the front tyres were at 60 + degrees.. ( don't recall exactly) I dropped pressures to 30 hot all through the day- but went slower for reason or another..

I'll check the cam timing on the weekend I think.. pulls really nicely at low RPM, and then gets breathless in the mid range... completely different to 2 weeks ago...

Just checked gear speeds, and looks like I was shifting at 6000-6500 ish RPM cos it was falling over..

Fixed back seat helps no end. Mount it to factory runners so your SO can have a go at some stage.

Even with the shitty eBay coilovers in ours, the car is a different beast from standard stuff.
I need to fix the bushes in ours and slot the mount holes on the struts we have.

haha... fantastic to catch up mate... you'll have to bring the new fam down sometime and we can have beers etc..

smee- nopics has as much interest in driving cars fast as I have in horses... none, zero, zip- works well will go seat then coilovers methinks.. will get Rodney to fab me a harness bar as well.. I'm amazed that people run shoulder straps for harnesses down to the floor still...

takai- cheers, figured as much, should have checked it properly after the seal change..

my son has a chest and ear infection so I'll be at home at least 3 days this week- providing I can get him to sleep during the day, should be able to at least check it..

There is a 20v factory manual online somewhere, so the cam timing should be fairly easy. A 20v with no top end would be no fun at all (like a ZE only slow)...

If you can't find a copy of the manual, give me a yell; I've got one somewhere.

I know on the earlier 4a motors there was a plug in the belt cover so you could undo the tensioner, then you only have to line her up on TDC and take off the top belt cover to fuck with the timing. not sure if 20v's are the same though?

tis the same on a 20valve.. I was lazy and didn't bother which probably lead to the issue..

Anyway ordinary video of ordinary driving.. Session 3- with spin on outlap. Car was running rough cos I was fucking with the ignition timing to see if I could squeeze a bit more out of it.. laptimes waaay slow- 26s....

Session 4- 3rd lap is the 1.22. 78 (and seems not to have uploaded.. will fix tonight.. )

If I get time on Friday (ie my son is feeling well enough to amuse himself) I'll try and get the racechrono data sorted and synched and reupload.

Video by Gopro HD hero on a Ram mount- still wobbly as ever with rubbish sound.. tops...
