    price for Garrett GT42R

what would be a reasonable price for a brand new GT42R ball bearing 1000hp turbo, with no turbine housing?

no need to go that way I don't think, unless there are clear advantages that someone can point out to me. I would be happy with plain bearing, but BB nice

There are clear advantages GTX over GT (earlier spool, more power).

Go here and play with the slider on the top right. You can compare turbos for both compressor and turbine maps.

Here's a comparison of the GT42R and GTX42R. If these pics don't mean much to you then wait for Dale to weigh in on some real world examples.

Yeah, I guess Dale could educate me as I'm not fully up to speed with these graphs.

Just eyeballing it I guess the GTX would have a greater flow/boost regime, certainly over a better range.

    $1500 for a GT42 plain bearing vs $3000 for a GTX..

is the price difference worth it?? not in 95% of cases...

plain bearing 42s are proven tough performers..

Thanks, i think a normal old GT42 would provide enough giggles for me at the end of the day, not aiming for records just lurid black strips down the road

it's just a GT series 42R, ball bearing. no exhaust housing, but will try and source one for cheap depending on what A/R the person wants to run. what are they going for brand new in stores with exhaust etc, around $2300?

GTX spools up quicker and has a more efficient compressor wheel so it depends on the application if the extra is worth it. One thing with a BB turbo is if you are doing circuit laps and you say spin and stall the engine then there is a real risk that a bush turbo will suffer a fatal loss of oil pressure while it is still rotating at high revs.

I keep hearing all this gtx is better etc but still haven't seen one case of proven fact that in large frame turbos the gtx is better..

as for the turbo failure from high rpm shut down.. well the boat has had 2 goes at this
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwDf2...0&feature=plcp

glowing red hot and spinnning 1000+hp and zero turbo problems after 2 full seasons on the cheap and nasty GT42's..

maybe after 20 or 30 hot shut downs you might have a problem but the a few here and there is not going to stuff your turbo..

when i say glow i mean glow like this for 45min...

    Liking the edo spec pic

Hundreds of satisfied bush bearing turbo owners can't all be wrong. I can't justify the extra coin for GTX, esp for my use.
