    Learn me: Audi A8 4.2 Quattro (D2 - 1996)?

Guys, anyone have any knowledge on ownership of these things?

Any issues that can be financially ruinous that is specific to this car?

I dont know a great deal about the D2 model. Do they have any negative/positive reputations?

Pretty sure Matthew Newton (the PF one not Bert's son) owned one once upon a time so could give the low down.

Nopic's boss had one for a while - he was worth >$50mill and even he complained about the servicing/repair costs.

A while back, there was an A8 4.2 Quattro on sale in the local online classifieds at a bargain price ... gearbox problem, only reverse would function. It sat unsold for months and the price kept dropping. I talked to a mate in California that was a long time multiple Quattro owner (loved the cars ... hated the gearbox/driveline repair costs), and his opinion was to forget it. After one repair bill from hell, he adopted the philosophy that the moment the gearbox/driveline in a Quattro starts to misbehave, get rid of the car quick.

Slow in a straight line, nose-heavy handling, cost $infinity to fix, is there anything Audis are good at other than looking pretty?

Dont really care about speed nor handling. Was interested in something uber luxury at peasant $$$.

Even buy a Jag, the A8 is a white elephant that Audi is too stupid to kill, same with the VW Phaeton.

Spend $1k and have a lawyer read over their 10 year warranty. If it covers the above issues and isn't warrantied by "jo bloggs dodgy warranties pty ltd " why not!
