figured time has come to sell this and the parts car ('72 280S) I've had it parked up thinking one day i'll get back to it - but i don't see it happening anytime soon and it's just wasting away where it is. I'll find some pics and put them up tonight.
the condition it's in, it's really a restoration project - but i guess with a weekends work it could be back to being a driver
the good:
* low km's on the rebuilt gearbox (kickdown switch needs fixing)
* comes with a parts car '72 280S that i drove round a bit (includes complete air con system which is near impossible to find, and a variety of interchangeable 'hard to get' bits) and a spare engine/gearbox/solex carb etc
* was my daily driver until I parked it a few years ago, when I had it i replaced the rotors/pads, shocks, flexible brake hoses, a halfshaft, some suspension rubbers, front wheel bearings, rear taillight assemblies) and generally maintained it as a rough driver
* sunroof works! (the screw probably needs lubricating though) and the manual tool to wind it open and closed is still there)
the bad:
* bent driveshaft - had some old driveshaft couplers and replaced them, turns out the driveshaft is bent
* rust - theres bits in all the usual spot for a 43 year old car, and under the vinyl roof where it joins to the body at the base, as well as in the sunroof surround (one of the left hand chrome strips across the bottom fell off, I have it somewhere)
* the interior is semi in-peices and most of it is there - it's all pretty basic though so would be easy enough to make bits/recover stuff
* the woodwork on the dash is stuffed (the parts car has slightly better wood, and would be easy enough to restore)
* damage to the front left quarter behind the wheel well, some scuffs on the bumper rubbers and a scuff behind the drivers side door - it's thick german 1960s steel so likes being bashed back into shape
* some retard (before me) installed springs that are too big, been meaning to swap the parts car ones but never got round to it, it has a webber progressive on it setup the wrong way, and the radiator is held in by cable ties (needs similar to exhaust donuts to properly mount it, and some rubber strips)
* one of the wheels is out of round - really needs a set of wheels as they're all crap.
* the 250CE was painted with house paint.. it's been outside for a while and turned to shit. I think it's white underneath - it's green with a vinyl roof
Most of the parts are actually still available (random things like where the front windows touch the rear windows when wound up, that rubber is quite cheap!) Imparts, eBay and Mercedes-Benz themselves sell most stuff for it, and you've got a parts car to scavenge bits off
cars are in Allora (which is a 2 and a bit hour drive from Brisbane - close to half way between warwick and toowoomba) I've also got some real factory workshop manuals if anyones interested in those too (and I think I have the CD somewhere as well)
i'm open to offers, sort of keen for around <del>$1900</del> now $1100 for the pair. I'm not really interested in seperating them. Would make a good project if you're handy with tools as most of the stuff you can swap off the old car (and even sell most of the stuff you don't use)
