pulled all the subframes apart over the weekend and degreased them in preparation for paint.
came up quite well after i removed 40 years worth of shit that was stuck to them.

going to rebush the whole lot whilst i'm at it. any 2002 lovers out there go any recommendations for the best mob to buy all the bushes from and the steering arms (all three, middle one is slightly bent)

*hoping* to track down a mostly complete E21 318i shortly, which will get me the upgrade parts in one go - 5 speed, rear drums and front hubs.

I'd think Ireland engineering should be able to sort you out with all you need.

^ do this, mothball the original donk & do the conversion such that it can be returned to stock.

    M20 > M10
    M20 stroker > M20
M20 stroker on E85 with ITB's (or webers), headwork & big cam > M20 stroker

in case anyone gives a shit i got a big tax return this year so i'm slowly spending it on the coupe. all the rust should be removed and welded up this week.
lined up a donor E21 318 from mr morerevsm3, will get hubs, 5 speed, rear brakes etc. just need to go down and collect it.
folks are off to the US and Canada shortly, returning via SF, so i'm getting the guys at IE to send a package of bits to their hotel to bring back on the plane. they're flying presium economy so i've got some space to play with.
currently lined up bilsteins, dual carb manifold, rod style linkage, perhaps some other crap
also got all new bushes the other day, just need to press the old ones out and paint all the bits

all possible rust has been removed and patched, inaccesable places and doors have been treated, everything is now at minimum in etch.

engine bay now looks like this

RH door had issues. LH door was worse...

    boot done

new guard from W&N, needed to slot the bolt holes a little, other than that it's a good fit

underside of the bonnet rubbed back and deoxidined, it's primed now.

doors and guards on, all lines up.

boot and bonnet to follow. final fill, rub and prime, rub etc to follow...

    update:
yeah so suspension is more or less finished. painted with KBS shiz, new bushes, bilsteins etc.
brake upgrade done, got volvo 4 pots, vented E21 323 discs, e21 drums.
also got a 5 speed for it last year. discovered yesterday the spider gears in the original diff is fucked, so i went searching for an E21 diff today and by some fucking miracle it looks like I've found a hens teeth LSD. picking it up thursday AM and will confirm.
might have landed 2 sets of 13x6" BBS as well for fuck all.
