    Eastern Creek Lap Times GP

With the kink removed for the new turn 6/7 and the much wider exit to hair pin turn 9 (now turn 8 I think),
was wondering how much time is now reduced from the track all things being equal.

In theory, would lap times be about 1 second faster now for the GP circuit?

Pics of the 4 tracks for 2012 and GP circuit and shown here:

I've heard from guys on bikes it has made between 1 second and no difference. I've only sampled the new layout in the wet so can't comment from experience, but I don't think it matters much, everyone straight lines that corner anyway.

Watching video on Speedweek, it looks like you stay wide right all the way up the hill after turn 5 and the entry speed into 6 looks a lot quicker.
Is the exit still off camber and was wondering it may even be a gear higher than previously too.

I'm out there May 24th in the Turbo Taxi.

I loved the kink into 7... why did they remove it?

I used to like it when you went across that little strip of Concrete. Once they put in the big kerb I thought you had to lose too much speed in and out of 7. Just my opinion. Drove the new kinkless track briefly, didn't seem to notice a huge difference but it was briefly so don't take my word for it.

I didn't drive it with the speed hump. Just talking about the strip of concrete.

    How was the new corner?
Was the turn 9 hairpin useful?

Here's a bit of in car footage from recent Sports Sedans. Editing sort of spoils the flow but you can see the new corner. Don't think it makes a heap of difference. Nor the wider exit from T9. A bit, but not drastic.

I reckon it's all worth about a second. Took a while to get used to 7, but I like it. Turn 9 I started using the extra concrete once shit got serious while racing. I don't reckon there is much time there though.

T9 lets you run wider, but you actually travel further swingingout wide and having to cut back in before the dirt. If they had extended it longer then it would have allowed more time to be gained. I think T6 gives more time from the resurfacing than the corner itself. The track was very quick on the weekend though, some of the Radical guys pulled 1-2secs on their best PBs, but didnt improve grid spots!

    I reckon it's a great little addition

Incidentally, the whole precinct was renamed Sydney Motorsport Park today.

My suggestion was calling it the Cochrane Ring.

On a side note what is with these cunts trying to re-invent themselves!

First it was WSID, renaming to Sydney Dragway now EC renaming to Sydney Motorsports Park... WTF was wrong with Eastern Creek Raceway and Western Sydney International Dragway!

Rant over. Resume discussion of lap times,

Little bit blind coming out of turn 8!

Looks like the second pit facility will sit over the top of the road leading to the tunnel.

So went out today, and after not raining for a month, it buckets down 10minutes before my first session. Didn't stop either.

Bonus was I got to drive the new track!
Even in the wet, traction was ok in the new section, possibly because I was going pretty slowly.
The uphill left hander at the end is fantastic.
