If you liked your old pug then maybe spend a little more and pick up an 03 on pug 206 GTI?
More reliable, cheap parts and fun. Also is a comfortable place to be.

That particular mini looks to be a massive pile of shit. You'd spend over $10k just getting it reasonable.
I'd go AW11 if you don't need the room.
I owned a Pulsar Q 2.0 a few years ago, reasonable low km Oz assembled example and it still fell to pieces over a couple of years and wasn't actually that great to drive. In the early 90s they were the bomb, but time has moved on.
You get better bang for your buck out of the 80s stuff, and it's always lasted me better.
I'm a big fan of late 80s Japanese weirdness that never made it here, but has lots of engine/transmission bits from common imports. Laurel/Gloria/Cefiro etc. if you can find a good one are awesome. I had an '88 Laurel Turbo that cost $1500 that never let me down and topped out the speedo at 180 (allegedly).
Cefiro?

could get a clean example with AC for less than 5k... but tbh id prefer something newer for a runabout. maybe even fwd so i only have to worry about understeer. was thinking myself of getting a latest gen prelude ATTS for my new daily but too expensive.

Thanks for all the responses, really liking the MR2 idea and the Volvo S40 T4 is the most interesting curveball so farcheers
I feel truly sorry for anyone who ever bought a Volvo brand new, jesus christ. Turbohemi's got me thinking about 5 speed XR6s again too, despite interiors. I notice the big E30 following around here, are they really that good to drive? Had a bit of a look on eBay for BMWs but didnt see anything that grabbed me
Who here has lived with either a MR2 or S40 for any period of time and what to look out for?
cheers

Do not listen to anything this man says. They are insane, illogical thoughts propagated by us, the voices in his head.
My aw11 is a great car, throw in a new set of shocks and drive. The only slight downside apart from the lack of bootspace (for large objects, 2 boots can fit lots of small stuff) is sitting at ~3000rpm on the freeway. This is only really an issue if you replace the voided rubber engine mounts with solid urethane, like an idiot...
It's a dream to drive around town, just have to look out for absent minded fucks in 4wds who ignore your existence. They have good brakes and quick steering. Stock camber/castor/toe adjustment range is enough to make them very fun in the corners, plus mine seems to really enjoy 7000+ rpm with nothing but regular oil changes.
tis a wagon, so will handle![]()
Adrian- based on your car history and your valiant love, surely a 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia is the answer..

Yeah, I would think horsepower (as in 192rwhp) is more likely, I actually didn't pick up on the rwkw part, I was just thinking 192kw which would still boogie along.
I actually like the ED one for $2k, even though it's an auto it looks immaculate and would make a nice driver.
My nopics sister has had a V40 T4 for a couple of years and apart from the torque steer has been pretty good. The bolt on ability of evo parts also can make things pretty fun. There are cheap (er) parts available from the US so you will not go broke keeping the luxury on the road. The gearboxes are dsigned for the bigger Volvos so can easily handle stock (or more) power.
