How to remove powdercoating from aluminium

    Hey Guys,

Does anybody know how to strip powdercoating from aluminium parts? I would prefer not to sandblast.

I have read somewhere that gasket stripper will do it. Google is your friend...

Carbie cleaner seems to soften the powdercoat pretty well, so thinners or similar may be the go.
Haven't tried it to totally remove powdercoat - but some of it came off on the rag when 'cleaned' with carbie cleaner!

Thanks guys, I'm going to give the gasket stripper a shot, I read that too. I was hoping that somebody on here had some feedback they could provide from having had the same problem. Other method I'll look into is plastic bead blasting.

not sand blasting, but some other media blast would do the trick - soda, shell, etc.

The guy who powdercoated my stuff sandblasted the alloy bits n pieces and done a pretty crap job to be honest. It looks like the sand has been impregnated into the alloy and he hasn't wiped it over before applying the powdercoat, because it's as rough as guts.

It's a pita removing the powder, even with chemicals. The guy I use for powder has a burn off oven that they stick all the parts in and fire it up which makes the powder flake and peel off. Still makes a bit of a mess and they usually blast the remaining crud off.
