    IPRA U2L '91 Honda Integra

(iVtec) Yo, thought I would make a new build thread for my 91 Integra. I have owned it for about 5 years, was my second car and my first "nice" one. Will be built to under 2L IP specs, initially with the stock engine then will be having a K20A slotted in. Cage is complete except for dash and harness bar which should be easy enough to get added, all done by Walker chassis (2.5k which wasn't bad I thought). The current U2L pace is 1:20 at Mallala, this has done 28's on semis stock, so a fair bit of "quickening" will be needed.

First job is interior fit out (seat - not the one in the pics lol, paint, dash etc) then brakes (either oem honda or forged willwoods, running a 15in wheel) and suspension (fairly set on the ground control koni yellow/coilover sleeve setup). Then pretty up the outside, fit a new clutch, maybe weld the diff and do some practice days/sprints and dial it in. While this happens Ill be picking up K20A stuff as it comes up for cheap, this car most likely wont race until the K20 is in. Obviously lots of other little things will need to be done, but it should be a simple, reliable and fast little car. Ill update with pics etc once I get home and as I go, these are just pics that my brother took after it got the cage done.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Update: Not a huge amount to report, the weekend saw a visit to Walker Chassis for the dash bar to be welded in, and tagged to the steering column mount. Also ordered the K24 mounts and the rear swaybar setup (ASR race kit), finally got the quote from Ground Control for the Koni setup so I need to ring them at midnight and pay for that.

Pretty much decided on a K24a3 (Accord Euro) with 6sp. ~140fwkw, lots of torque and 1/3 the price of K20A's. The only issue is that it wont fit with a wet sump, off the shelf mounts and uncut bonnet (the main problem for IPRA). So it wont be IPRA legal to start with (so Ill just do sprints etc) then Ill have to pony up for custom mounts to the lower the engine and a dry sump setup (which will be nice to have anyway).

Going K24 will put me in 2-3L IPRA which isn't really a problem as SA only has 2-3 U2L cars and the rest are bigger, so it will be more competitive and hopefully more fun. Youtube egK24a to see how spastic fast K24 grocery getter Hondas are

This weekend should see the interior painted and seat half mounted, maybe old engine out as well.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

A well setup and driven K24 Honda can run outrite in most states, I think they could easy run with and beat the Nastie RX7s.

Mallala is too power heavy for this to go outright, maybe wakefield it would do pretty well i think?

Pics after the weekend. Honestly Walker chassis would be worth sending your car interstate to, if he wasn't booked out till the end of the year. Great bloke and didn't even charge me to add the dash bar.

Forgot to thank Coffin for the seat, picked up a Sparco Pro ADV for a great price. Decided to go with a full head restraint seat after what happened to Rookie.

So a mate, bro and I did a bit of work the other week:

Cheers to Bigmuz for recommending the KBS paint, easy to use and looks good (apart from some runs/drips on the horizontal bars, but that's our fault). Not cheap though, but only used approx 1.5L so have heaps left for other parts/projects.

Also received the coilovers (as per the above pic) very happy with the quality so far. Engine is starting to come out, once the shed extension is done it will be up on stands and ill get stuck into it

    Cheers,
    Jeff

    Good work son!

Q: painting the cage/interior. Would you recommend painting the cage, then doing interior, or just do it all at once?? i.e. Paint cage one week, mask/cover up then paint interior the next week??

Choppo we painted the inside of my car in one hit, guess it depends if you want the cage the same colour as the interior or not?

Looking good Jeff, I'm loving the grey interiors people have been doing lately.

if its same colour the only issue is planing the paint, so you don't end up trapped in a corner/boot We started front floor, then front half of cage, front roof cage, back seat area, roof, rear cage, boot sides, boot floor. Ill have to pull the loom and touch it up, plus a few spots we missed.

I like the grey, it looks pro and should be easy to keep clean.

    Cheers for the kind words,
    Jeff
